Best woman for Kirk

Miss Mess

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
I often debate over which woman - out of the countless women he effortlessly smiled the pants off- would have been best for Captain Kirk.

Opinions?

I agree with Trek_princess! Edith Keeler was an established woman with her own ideas. And they seemed to get on really well together. She wasn't one of the gals who was looking for Captain K to take them away or rescue them.

I was thinking specifically of the woman with pale green hair in The Gamesters of Triskelion (I know, I know -- I should know these names but I'm blanking out!!! -- tragic!) She had only lived her life on that planet and wanted to go with Kirk -- I don't think that would have worked out at all.

Also, there were several girls that were androids so they probably wouldn't have worked out in the long run. (No matter how many fantasies one might have about having an android boyfriend/girlfriend!!) ;)

I always liked Yeoman Rand and Kirk together, but, for me, it really comes down to not having affairs with co-workers or your boss!

Mmm definately Edith Keeler for me aswell. She's gorgeous. 'The City On The Edge Of Forever' always kills me, no matter how many times i watch it.
I also always liked Eve in 'Mudds women'. I always thought Kirk needed a strong women, who wasn't afraid to speak her mind. An extraordinary women for an extraordinary man.
I had a thing for Marlena too, from 'Mirror mirror'. But Edith keeler definately takes the cake.

All in all, I'd have to go with Yeoman Rand. She was a few years his junior, but she had hidden depths, and a mind of her own.

Edith was great, but was she the right woman for Kirk? Doesn't he need someone who lives in the 23rd century and on his level of society? I don't know if I phrased that society thing correctly, I'm just referring to the implausibility of say, Miramanee, living on the Enterprise. I guess with her intuitive sense of how the future would unfold, Edith could have adjusted to living in the 23rd century.

So I guess I would rephrase the original question. Who is the best woman for Captain Kirk. For Jim Kirk, regular person? Different answer. But then again, is he really still Kirk if he's not the captain anymore, anyway? We don't really know who that character is without that chair on the bridge.

Sorry to get all Descartes at the end there.:)

All in all, I'd have to go with Yeoman Rand. She was a few years his junior, but she had hidden depths, and a mind of her own.

Actually, I think she was the same age or a year older than him but I digress. I love Rand but she always seemed a bit empty-headed, bless her. I think maybe the beehive was stuffed with straw from the neck up. Having an affair with a subordinate, and I'm sure it goes on, can be problematic but that could have added quite an interesting dynamic but it was episodic TV where such things rarely ever got past the unrequieted stage.

Edith was more of an equal but, like Carol, their career choices would have conflicted. Kirk could only have stayed with Edith if he was prepared to give up his career for her and we all know how that works out for him.

I actually think that Kirk should have got together with someone like Ann Mulhall - not a direct subordinate like Rand but someone with a strong, independent personaility and a sense of duty and professionalism just as strong as his who could understand and respect his desire to serve in Starfleet.

It seemed pretty clear to me in Shore Leave that his torch for Ruth never lost its flame.

I would say that of the women we saw on TOS, Edith Keeler was the one Kirk had the greatest chemistry with and the most emotional connection with. Joan Collins was great in that role.

Well if you've read any of the slashly crap..it was Spock...

As for me..I think Ms. Keeler was the right one for him..the others were just fun flings for the most part...

haha good point. The ship always wins. And if i had rephrased my question as 'best PERSON for Kirk', rather than WOMAN my answer would indeed have been Spock...the only person who has ever come between him and the Enterprise.

How about Lt. Areel Shaw...the defense attorney in The Court Marshall? Pretty lady, smart and had good chemistry with Kirk.

Oh yea... i 4got about her. She was cute. I love the ending scene of that episode - 'court martial' :

Areel Shaw: (whispering to Kirk) Do you think it would cause a complete breakdown in discipline if a lowly lieutenant kissed a starship captain on the bridge of his vessel?
