best STAR FIELD

I love STAR FIELDS in scifi movies...in fact, Insurrection's star fields were so bad, as was Nemesis's, its probably a major reason I hate those movies...

What was the best starfield in a movie..where, when you looked at the stars, it was like...wow...that is so cool....

I always thought that 2010 had a great starfield, especially as they came around the dark side of jupiter I think...Another nice starfield was in the opening of Phantom Menace..always like it...what are some of your favorite, and least favorites (I already listed mine...but Insurrection by far)

While wholly unrealistic, I always like the more artsy starfields. You know, with massive multicolored gas clouds and whatnot. As such, the ones used in Muppets in Space (namely when Gonzo gets struck by lightning) are among my most favorite.

Farscape had some really beautiful displays, too.

My favorite was the revolving starfield during the opening credits of TWOK. It's certainly not the most realistic, but I love the dizzying sensation it gives you, and how it feels like you're really out there in the depths of space.

Forbidden Planet's starfield is best IMHO. I've haven't seen anything that looks quite as real. Star Trek's were always bad.

I thinking about the part at the very beginning showing the ship going through space. The starfield has a 3D effect that I really like.

i know the scene.http://dc-mrg.english.ucsb.edu/WarnerTeach/E192/Images/FP.space.ship.gif
it's not a very good pic though, but it definatly had a 3-d effect to it. didn't disney studio's do the fx for that film?they were way ahead of their time.

Actually is IS the most realistic because they are actual stars!

If you read the text commentary during the opening credits, you will know what I mean

I hated it, both because it was monochrome (and not only that, but blue) and because the nature of the effect led to strange perspective shifts as the POV rotated.

Uhh, no, they were points of light projected on a wall and photographed by the motion picture camera. They were a planetarium simulation based on the positions of actual stars, but saying they were actual stars is like saying that the painting hanging in the Louvre is the actual, living, breathing Lisa Gherardini.
