Best single scene in all of Trek?

Being a big TOS fan, I think the best scene ever is when Kirk stops McCoy from saving Edith Keeler in City on the Edge of Forever. Never has the burden of command been so aptly summed up as in that scene. McCoy's anguished line, "Do you know what you just did?" Spock's understated, "He knows, Doctor. He knows." And Kirk's tormented expression. I don't think it gets any better than this. -- RR

For me, it has to be the "death of Spock" in Wrath of Khan...and his eulogy afterward. I don't know if anything else has been as emotionally powerful.

That's high on my list, too. Also Picard and... I'm blanking on her name right now... she was a stellar cartographer, I believe... playing the flute and keyboard together in the jeffries tube.

Neela.

Hm... it's Nella, in fact - Nella Darren. ;)

I second that - gets me every time I watch this episode.

Then in BOBW2, the tear Picard sheds when he's being fully assimilated by the Borg.

And of course, Spock's death, his reunion with his friends in Star Trek III - and though I don't like the movie STV itself, I really like the scene when Kirk gets rescued by the Klingon bird of prey and admits to Spock he really thought he'd die, with Spock's answer that that wasn't possible since he never was alone.

Shatner might not really have had a good grasp at directing, and the story was meagre at best - but STV was full of little character-moments like that, and this one's my favourite.

The court scene in Voy: Q and Grey. When both Q's smack their foreheads going, "Vulcans". Classic!

Good thread.

1) Inner Light (TNG) - the last scene where Picard is playing the flute.

2) Emissary (DS9) - the wolf 359 battle scene in the beginning

3) The Visitor (DS9) - the Adult Jake and Benjamin Sisko moment near the end

4) Best of Both Worlds (TNG) - the final scene with Locutus and the crew before Riker tells them to fire.

Data's "Lifeforms" song is one of my favorite comedic moments (from GEN). Dunno if it's a "great scene" but I wanted to mention it.

2 great scenes, I think, is the end of the TOS episode with Trelene, and DS9 scene with Quark and Hanok in "Starship Down" when they're trying to diffuse the missle and Quark finds out that the Karema make them. Hee hee. But I tend to associate "good" scenes with humorous ones.

Kirk trying to explain away Spock to the Policeman in "City On The Edge of Forever": My friend is obviously chinese....as a child he caught his head in an electric rice picker....American missionary living nearby who was a skilled plastic surgeon in civillian life. That scene always cracks me up.
