Best single scene in all of Trek?

Star Treks

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Probably been discussed before, but I'd like to hear your thoughts: what is the best single scene in all of Star Trek - any of the series or films?

Admittedly "scene" can be fuzzy - can one event be considered a scene even if it is split between other activity (say, Picard's torture in "Chain of Command"?) - I'll leave it up to you to decide.

A few of my nominations:

- Kirk and the dying Spock in The Wrath of Khan
- Picarcd's emotional meltdown in TNG's "Sarek"
- The gigantic space battle in First Contact
- The tour of the Enterprise by shuttle, in The Motion Picture
- The crashing of the saucer in Generations
- Q materializes a mariachi band aboard the bridge in TNG's "Deja Q"
- Crusher teaches Data to tap-dance in TNG's "Data's Day"
- The very final sequence in Enterprise's otherwise problematic "These Are The Voyages" (for nostalgic purposes)

Lots of TNG stuff for me because it's the series I know best, but I'm sure there will be other great suggestions from all of you.

I dunno about "best" but the one that shook me up the most was the final scene of "The Inner Light" when Picard plays the flute found in the probe.

Easily the "Broken Bow" decon chamber scene! That sh#t was HOT! That sh#t was OUT THERE! It was frakkin Star Trek d00d!

(No, seriously,The tour of the Enterprise by shuttle, in The Motion Picture practically makes me cry every time I watch it. Plus, I'd also nominate "Mr. Warf... FIRE!" from BoBW pt.1)

Good question ...

Here are a few (in no particular order), though I'm sure I could think of many more!!

1) "Measure of a Man" - Guinan makes Picard realise that Starfleet's plans for Data are just the same as slavery.

2) "Yesterday's Enterprise" - Guinan explains the reasons why the Enterprise C has to go back ... "Not good enough, damn it! Not good enough!"

3) "Measure of a Man" - Riker switches "Pinnocchio" off

4) "Chain of Command" - Picard's final "There are four lights"

5) "Amok Time" - Spock's emotional response to seeing Jim alive again.

6) "City on the Edge of Forever" - Edith Keeler's death as Kirk stops McCoy from saving her. McCoy's reaction as he says to Kirk, "Do you know what you've done?" and Spock's response, "He knows, Doctor. He knows".

7) "City on the Edge of Forever" - On discovering that their present has been wiped out by McCoy's actions in the past, Kirk looks up into space, into a starless sky.

For me it will forever be the last scene in the last episode of TNG:

138 INT. RIKER'S QUARTERS - PRESENT

Riker, Data, Beverly, Troi and Geordi sitting at the
table, playing POKER. Troi is raking in her winnings
with a big smile. Beverly pushes back her chair and
    gets up.

                    BEVERLY
            That's it for me.

                    TROI
            There's always next time.

Beverly smiles moves to an empty chair off to one side
    of the table.

That's four hands in a row. How
            does he do it?

                    RIKER
            I cheat.

Data's head snaps up in shock.

                    RIKER
                (continuing)
            I'm kidding.

Data collects the cards and begins shuffling at normal
    speed. Beverly looks thoughtful.

                    BEVERLY
            I've been thinking... about all
the things the Captain told us
about the future. The way we
            changed and drifted apart... why
would he tell us what's to come?

                    GEORDI
            It sure goes against everything
            we've heard about not polluting
            the time line...

                    DATA
            I believe, however, that this
            situation is unique.

    They all look at him.

                    DATA
                (continuing)
Since the temporal anomaly did not
            occur, there have already been
changes in the way this time line
            is unfolding. The future we
            experience will undoubtedly be
different from the one the Captain
            encountered.

                    RIKER
Maybe that's why he told us.
            Knowing what that future could
bring... gives us a chance to
            change things now.

He gives Worf a meaningful look.

                    RIKER
                (continuing)
So that some things never happen.

    Worf nods in understanding.

                    TROI
            Am I too late?

                    RIKER
Not at all. Have a seat.

Troi sits, and Riker begins giving her chips.

                    TROI
            What's the game?

                    DATA

                    RIKER
            Come.

The doors open and Picard ENTERS. Everyone reacts in
    surprise, sits up at attention.

No. I just thought I might...
join you this evening. If there's
            room...

Surprised but pleased looks go around the table.

                    RIKER
            Of course.

Picard takes a seat at the table. Data gives him the

down boy ;)

Best scene for me has to be where Kirk, McCoy and the rest are standing on Genesis watching the Enterprise hurtle down in flames. Kirk asks McCoy, "My god Bones, what have I done?"

I can't believe no one yet mentioned ITS A FAAAAAKE!
288t8pc.jpg

The very last scene in In The Pale Moonlight. Fitting that the best scene comes from Trek's best episode. :techman:

Computer...erase that entire personal log.

Outside those mentioned I'd add 'Nuclear wessels...', the dinner in TUC and the scene between Kirk and Sisko.

There are so many I've liked. Picards rant in First Conact, his admitting how close he was to submitting after his Cardassian interrogation, Jakes death in the Visitor.. it's hard to pick just one.

A LOT of other great ones have been mentioned, many of which I agree with.

Though it's lower-key, I really liked the scene between O'Brien and Daro in "The Wounded." Not only was there what was said, but there was also a lot that wasn't said, that came through in the nonverbals from both of them, that made that whole thing really stick out.

Sim, stroking Porthos while waiting to be called to his death in similitude.

The most emotional for me

these are some of mine:

TOS: "Captain, the birds and the bees are NOT Vulcan."
TOS movies: "You Klingon bastard! You killed my son!"

TNG: "Fire!"
TNG movies: "The line must be drawn HEAH!"

DS9: 1) Ziyal's death and Dukat's reaction.
2) the entirety of Duet
3) the entirety of The Visitor

ENT: a broken, destroyed Enterprise listing across the screen at the end of Azati Prime.

The end of Star Trek 2, with Kirk, Carol, and Bones standing at the front of the bridge, looking out at the Genesis Planet. Bones (or maybe it's Carol) asks Jim "How do you feel?"

And Jim replies: "I feel young."

Then the pan to space with Spock's reciting the "Space, the final frontier . . ."
