Best season 6 of all the series

DS9 won season 5 with a whopping 69 percent of the vote. Now on to season 6. Voyager doesn't even come close for the rest of the seasons. Next Generation had the excellent Chain of Command,Timescape,Relics, plus some other great ones. But I still think DS9 wins. The excellent arc that opened the season showed us both sides of the war,The Magnificent Ferengi(which still cracks me up every time I see it) In the Pale Moonlight(one of my favorite episodes of all time and pretty much sums up the difference between DS9 and the "safer" TNG) and probably the best alternate reality episode in "Far Beyond the Stars".

Season 1: Star Trek
Season 2: Star Trek
Season 3: The Next Generation
Season 4: Deep Space Nine
Season 5: Deep Space Nine

DS9

When DS9 was at the top of its game, none of the other series could live with it. By Season 6, DS9 was well into its stride.

DS9
TNG
Voyager

DS9
TNG
VOY

Within each series, Season 6 always had some pretty amazing episodes.

Deep... Space... erm... Nine!

DS9 Season 6 is probably my favourite Trek season of all. The opening six-part arc (7 if you include YACI) is just amazing stuff. Gotta love the Dominion War

Its hard for me to break down TNG into seasons as they're all so stand-alone, and I also seem to watch TNG in complete random order.

Voyager 6 meanwhile stunk the house down IMO. Starting with the dire Equinox pt.2 and getting worse from there. This was IIRC the season I realised this show had no hope and so wasn't too surprised come 'Endgame'
Plus, the episode "Fair Haven"????? :wtf:
Made me want to me physically sick, and then hey! Let's do a sequel to that episode with "Sprit Folk"! Great idea!
or not

I don't get this observation that people make about DS9 being miles better than TNG (especially when you compare them by seasons). Case in point - the comparison of the sixth seasons. As tomalak said, DS9's sixth season is completely overrated. While TNG had essentially the same number (grade-wise) of B and C episodes as DS9, TNG had more A episodes and didn't deliver anything on the level of the truly poor effort that was 'Profit and Lace.' My vote: TNG, without question.

In my view DS9 season 6 exemplifies all the great attributes of DS9 that make DS9 a masterpiece. None of which attributes TNG had any of whatsoever. Namely, character development, story development, having to take unethical actions in order to solve grand problems in an acceptable way; fascinating recurring villain characters who also receive development, etc. etc.

Sure DS9 season 6 had some bad episodes, as do all seasons of DS9, but when viewed as a whole it is colossally better than any season from any other Trek show.

On another note, TNG season 6 certainly did have episodes every bit as bad as Profit and Lace. "A Fistful of Datas", for one.

DS9 by far. From season 3 on TNG was good but it still never reached the quality of DS9. Voy also had some good episodes in the last 4 years, but I think it still was just a little under TNG quality.

DS9 & TNG broadly tie in with each other in terms of peerless quality, with both shows ripening out very well indeed (but sagging somewhat in their seventh seasons).

Oh dear, Voyager was going downhill again after the reasonable fifth season, but there were still sublime and memorable episodes jumbled in with the insultingly bad..

Deep Space Nine was unstoppable in its sixth season, barring what it did to Dukat post-Waltz. But for the opening arc alone it would win my vote. Far Beyond the Stars, Waltz, You Are Cordially Invited, In the Pale Moonlight, and Who Mourns for Morn are just extra bonuses in my book.

DS9. It wasn't a perfect season (DS9 vacillated in quality pretty wildly throughout its run, people tend to just remember the good parts and forget the Ferengi "comedies," pointless romances of the week, and the poor way the religious plot arc was handled) but when it was good it was better than Trek has ever been - the opening Occupation Arc plus In the Pale Moonlight in one season, whoo-hoo!
