Best sad songs?

Here are some of my favorite "sad songs" from my collection:

1.) "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye"-Laura Branigan (EXCELLENT cover by Patty Loveless)
2.)"Angel"-Sarah McLachlan
3.)"Full of Grace"-Sarah McLachlan (used very effectively at the end of BTVS S2)
4.)"Nobody Lives Without Love"-Eddi Reader
5.)"Sara"-Starship
6.)"Don't Dream It's Over" (used very effectively on Stephen King's "The Stand")
7.)"I Have A Dream"-ABBA (wistful)
8.)"Moments"-Emerson Drive (Music video is really good)
9.)"It's The Lover (Not The Love)"-Tiffany
10.)"White Flag"-Dido
11.)"Hands To Heaven" (emotion-inducing song-used as a tribute to the victims of 9/11 by one of our local radio stations but not overused thankfully)
12.)"Will The Sun Ever Shine Again" (from Disney's "Home on the Range")
13.)"Castaway Dreams"-Lindsey Buckingham
14.)"Dreams"-Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac
15.)"I Will Go With You (Where the Lost Ones Go)"-Sarah Brightman & Chris Thompson
16.)"Second Chance"-38 Special
17.)"Ordinary Miracles"-Sarah McLachlan (from "Charlotte's Web" live action movie)

"Breathe Me" by Sina Furler.

Seriously, I can barely watch Six Feet Under again without thinking how sad (but brilliant) the ending was.

"Angel"-Sarah McLachlan
I'd say yes, but I'd substitute McLachlan with my cousin. She sang that at my great grandmothers funeral and I can honestly say she completly outclassed McLachlan. Girls got a great voice.

Wow-you guys missed a lot of no-brainers.

I'm Not In Love by 10CC

Will You Still Love Me by Carol King(hell, just by her Tapestry)

Norwegian Wood by The Beatles

No 1 Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor

not to mention that 70s radio standard "Wildfire" -can't remember artist but damn depressingly sad song that played for YEARS on AM pop radio

and what about "Ode to Billy Joe" by Bobby Gentry?

and the saddest of the sad-"The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot

Well, this is obviously three months too late to be added to the album Aldo was planning to make for a friend, but...

Dust in the Wind by Kansas (My all-time favorite sad song)
Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles (A very close second)
The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkle (Way up there)
Cat's in the Cradle by Harry Chapin (I have been known to get misty-eyed when thinking about the lyrics)
Candle on the Water from Pete's Dragon (Not a very manly confession, I know. Interestingly, when removed from the context of the movie, the lyrics work perfectly as an expression of God's love for wayward children.)

That is not a sad song. That is a STUPID song, about a horse that is so confused it actually gets lost in a killing frost. (A killing frost refers to when it gets cold enough that you should cover your flowers and garden veggies at night. Any horse dumb enough to get lost at a time like that, would get lost in the middle of August as well.)

If you say so. I found it sad before it became hokey.

No 1 Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor
Nothing Compares 2 U.

Great song but I prefer the original version Prince gave to The Family more. There's no drums, just strings and a sax solo.

Thanks for the reminder about Carol King.:bolian:
Don't listen to Babaganoosh, Wildfire is a good song. It's a classic for that reason.

So Far Away- Carol King

love On the Rocks-Neil Diamond

Summer Breeze(covered) by Type O Negative It was originally a happy song by Seals and Croft but what Type O does to it....

and let's not forget one of the most wistful(and ironic) songs of the 70s:
Only Women Bleed by Alice Cooper which I think rates right alongside Beth by Kiss as a beautiful song done by ugly people:guffaw:

Also, I think Simon and Garfunkel did a real downer of a song called "Richard Corey" which was later imitated by Emerson, Lake & Palmer in their song "Lucky Man" (although not nearly as depressing).
