Best sad songs?

Immortal Technique- "Dance With the Devil"
Sufjan Stevens- "John Wayne Gacey Jr."
Johnny Cash- "Hurt"

Definitely no contest, the Man in Black makes moody sad music.

"Shades of Gray" - The Monkees
Just about anything from the Final Cut album - Pink Floyd (much more downbeat than even The Wall)
"The Loneliest Person" - The Pretty Things (Most depressing song ever? At least Pink Floyd's rock opera ended on an upbeat note)
"Buckets of Rain" - Bob Dylan
"Dreaming Again" - Jim Croce
"Downbound Train" - Bruce Springsteen
"It Makes No Difference" - The Band
"Diary" - Bread
"Epitaph" - Judas Priest
"Soon I Will Be Gone" - Free
"You Can Never Go Home" - The Moody Blues
"The Eyes of a Child" - Ken Hensley (Still though, unquestionably one of the best songs of 1975)
"When a Blind Man Cries" - Deep Purple
"Don't Let It Bring You Down" - Neil Young (Sorry Neil, but this tune does)
"Broken Heart" - Skip Spence (This must have been where the Police got the lyrical inspiration for "King of Pain")
"The Great Indifference of Heaven" - Warren Zevon
