Best of the Buffy "trilogy"

The best episode of the three

"The Body" - even though i hate the vampire at the end...

I've never liked the vampire at the end - I was always under the impression Joss wanted to make the episode 'real' and discard the fantasy elements of the series (which was supposedly why Spike didn't appear in it at all).

I understand the notion that 'despite her mother's death, Buffy's life as the Slayer carries on', but it really jars with the previous 35 minutes of the story...

Agreed--the episode would have been much stronger without the vamp at the end. That's the one thing spoiling an otherwise pitch-perfect episode.

I voted for OMWF--and this is from a guy who pretty much loathes the whole genre of musicals. OMWF is the exception.

It's interesting ow they're all kinda linked
Hush- All music, no dialogue
The Body- All dialogue, no music
OMWF- Lot's of both, it's a musical!

I could have added Restless to the list, but it's because those three that get mentioned the most.
I would agree though that Restless is the best example of what dreams are really like, pretty much all dream sequences on TV and film are FAR too vivid and real, which isn't really what dreams are like at all

While I loved all three (or four if we are counting "Restless"), "Hush" is my favourite.

I love the ending - Buffy and Riley have spent the entire episode unable to talk but now they can they can't find the words to say to each other.

I can't vote on that, all the episodes are great and too close to call. Dam Buffy was good :p

Much as I think OMWF is a fantastic musical, I love it for that reason first and foremost - not as an episode of Buffy, the show I knew and loved. So I wouldn't rate it as a 'best Buffy episode', just a really good (stunningly good, considering Joss' experience) musical story.
That leaves Hush and The Body. The latter has always packed an emotional punch, even more so recently when I've seen a girl I love very much go through that, and I think it is one of the most realistic, heart-wrenching treatments of death on television.
Hush is the episode of Buffy that is most genuinely creepy, genuinely scary. Laced with comic moments too, and great character pieces, I have a great soft spot for this episode, and it did very well what it set out to do - sell the message 'when we stop talking, we start to communicate'.
In the end the only thing that will decide my vote is which I would watch again if I had a choice right now. And, possibly because The Body hits a bit too close to home, it'd be Hush.

I think 'Hush' is one of the most genuinely creepy shows that Buffy did. The way those Gentlemen folk looked as well as floating around so majestically, in between ripping people's hearts out who couldn't even shout about it! And with the lack of dialogue, the excellent music does a lot of good work. It always makes me feel like *I* can't speak!

I really can't vote between them, simply because they are so different. They are easily in my top five episodes of all time (along with "Restless", another favorite in this thread, and "Becoming").

I always though "Becoming" was kind of overrated. The story just never had quite the emotional impact on me, and the fact they did just a poor job of "hiding" the stunt doubles is really distracting.

Oh man, "Becoming" is by far my favourite episode (and not just of the show but probably of anything ever.) I remember the first time I saw that when Sky 1 showed Parts 1 & 2 back to back... wow, I really needed a sit down and a breather after that one
