Boardwalk Empire hit a new stride this past week. The scene with Chalky interrogating the KKK guy was brilliant television.
Your choices mirror mine very closely. The Wire without a doubt, closely followed by The Sopranos. I don't think any other show has been able to portray urban decay and the failure of social institutions as poignantly or intelligently as The Wire did. Truly outstanding television that never underestimates the intellect of the viewer.
Honourable mentions to Deadwood, Carnivale and Six Feet Under.
Just be ready for some of the most eloquent profanity you might ever hear.I really need to see Deadwood. I love westerns.
I hadn't even heard about this show until this post but the mere imagine of Michael K. Williams (Omar is one of my favorite characters on The Wire) interrogating a KKK guy is enough to get me to check the show out. Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, Stephen Graham (as Al Capone!), and the premise adds more to the appeal. I've seen the first two episodes and I already love this show. And I haven't gotten to the aforementioned scene!Boardwalk Empire hit a new stride this past week. The scene with Chalky interrogating the KKK guy was brilliant television.
Agreed--I was wondering when Michael K. Williams' character was finally going to get some screen time in this series. The first episode he had like one line, the second one he didn't appear at all, but in the past two he's been fairly prominent.![]()

I'm looking forward to "In Treatment" returning at the end of this month. That's a really great show.

One of the very few American tv-shows where I needed subtitles to really understand what was going on.![]()
