I voted for Mark Lenard but before I opened the thread and saw the names I was actually thinking John Colicos as Kor.

Another vote for Mark Lenard. As much as I love the character Khan, Lenard's portrayal of the Romulan commander was powerful.

I voted for Montalban. His portrayal of Khan could have gone over the top, but his insticts, and possibly the director's skill, kept it under control.
I greatly admire Mark Lenard's Romulan Commander. However, the fact is that it was also a superbly written role. While I think Mr. Lenard's performance was elegant and well textured, I really think the fearsome, but honorable enemy is a fairly standard character and I can see how somebody else might play it very well.
Not so with Khan. I really can't see anyone capturing his essence as well as Mr. Montalban.
Now if we talk about the season with Journey to Babel in it, I've said before that I think Mr. Lenard's performance that it should be must study material for would be actors.

One of the things that stuck me this time 'round was how I totally bought Lenard as the Romulan commander to an extent that doesn't generally happen with TOS guest stars. I really believed him. The choice to bring ML back to play Sarek a season later despite his appearance in BoT (in pointed ears, no less) was brave and brilliant, IMHO.
Ricardo comes a close second, but for my money he really didn't own the Khan character until the second feature film. YMMV.

No contest-- Mark Lenard. BoT had such a great script and he used it to give an incredibly deep performance. Comparing BoT to Babel... Well, I regret that Sarek wasn't given a more profound set of lines on that episode. The episode was fun, but not in the same league as BoT. And that horrible wig!

nah Khan was eviler than that romulan commander (Lenard), and cold-blooded, but in a sense quite noble in his cause.
It showed in how it was protrayed and there was noone else but Mr. Rohrk (montabahn) would could have pulled it off any better.
