Best Final Fantasy?

Which is your favourite?

Out of the ones I've played (3,4,7,8,9,10,12), I like 10 and 12 the most (equally). Yes, that's right. I haven't played 6.

Let's see...

1 - Decent enough game. Good start to the series.

2 - Didn't like it at all. Hated the levelling system. After I was done playing it, I basically summed it up as "Final Fantasy goes to hell" (pun intended for those that remember the plot ;)).

3 - Haven't finished this one yet despite a few starts.

4 - One of the best and I was willing to shell out about 60 bucks for it off eBay.

5 - Pretty good, though not as much as 4 or 6.

6 - Hands down favourite Final Fantasy.

7 - Haven't played.

8 - Got to about the 3rd disc, but never got around to finishing it. From what I remember, it was okay, but never really got the hang of the junctioning system.

9 - Haven't played.

10 - Haven't played (goes for 10-2 as well).

11 - Haven't played.

12 - In the middle of playing it now. So far I'm enjoying it and the real-time battle system is a nice change of pace, though sometimes I'm barely squeaking through the boss fights.

So, of the ones I've finished, 6 is tops, followed by 4. Next are 1 and 5, and 2 is way down at the bottom of the list. Hell, I've even ranked Final Fantasy Mystic Quest higher than that one.

I'm into the second disc of 13 now and it's definitely not my fav. 12 will have to remain the top dog.

I'd have to say overall I'm finding XIII disappointing. I just don't care enough about the characters or storyline, and when you consider how fantastic the characters and stories were in previous games, XIII falls far short.

I agree, though I do feel as if it's a big step up from 12

III is the only one I ever played, and that was waaay back in the day. it was okay.

Well I have to admit I'm really loving XIII. I'm now about 27 hours in (chapter 10) and it's great. At the moment, X is my favourite btw.

A majority of the FF's I've played were spinoffs and thus not listed here, but of the main series games that I've played IV is my definite favorite, despite the massive upward shift in difficulty when you go to the Moon for the first time.

III thru VI and IX for me. I hate how the series has gone from a medieval fantasy world to a science fantasy one in the newer games. And I REALLY miss the old Jobs system.

Currently finishing up IV for the second time on the DS.

I apologize for bumping this thread after a year and 3 months, but I just got a PS3 last weekend and rented FFXIII, which has now officially eclipsed FFX as my favorite game in the series. I really don't get why people complain(ed) about FFXIII's storyline and characters, because I'm finding the story just as engaging as the storylines of the other games that I have in my top 5 list of favorite games in the series (FFX, FFVI, FFVIII, and FFIV), and have also found myself really taking a liking to FFXIII's entire cast, especially Lightning, Sazh, and Vanille (yes, I'm serious). I also really like the game's gameplay mechanics (especially the battle system) and the way that you're able to explore the game's mythology and history via the Datalog.

XIII worked better as a series of movies than as a game.

The fan movies made from the game were definitely better than the game itself.
