Hi all, I haven't been here in awhile, nice to be back.

Anyway, I am going to have my own little marathon with my dad, who hasn't seen much DS9 (he is a TOS fan) and he wants to "get into" DS9. I have been racking my brain to think of about 6-8 episodes that would be good for him to see. He has seen the early Dominion story arc (Late season 5 to Early season 6.) Also he has seen the Section 31 stories in season 7.

If anyone would like to offer what they think would be good for a new fan of DS9. I have seen most if not all the episodes, but I can't seem to think of what would be good for my dad.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

(when I get a few responses, I might put a poll up.)

Emissary
The Visitor
The Way of the Warrior
Duet
The Jem'Hadar
Improbably Cause/The Die is Cast
In the Pale Moonlight
Far Beyond the Stars -

It would also depend on what types of episodes he likes. I've left out a number of lighter episodes that are pretty good. Some of the Ferengi eps, Explorers, In the Cards, You are Cordially Invited, etc. Maybe mix in a few of them in as well.

With every single type of show, TNG, TOS, Enterprise, Voyager and DS9. I would pick the first episode of the season. This is only good in my judgment if you are starting out.

If he's a TOS fan Trials and Tribbleations might work for a lighter ep. The Magnificent Ferengi always gets a few laughs from some non-fans I know too.

robot elf has a pretty good list - theres not much more I would add to that.

You can't beat Move Along Home. :)

Urgh, I think I just threw up a little.

Seriously, I think Whispers is a good episode because the episode is stand-alone, the mystery is genuinely gripping and the twist is hard to see coming.

Past Tense might be good, it has that TOS style moral lesson.

And Duet. Just because.

"Let he who is without sin" :p

no, seriously, start with The Visitor, then if they like it, start at the top with The Emissary. DS9, with the exception of a few episodes, should be watched continuously.

but The Visitor draws 99% of newbies in.

Thanks for all the replies. I will use your suggestions, anyone who wants can continue to give more input. Then I will make a poll.

House of Quark
Little Green Men
The Wire
The Die is Cast
Improbable Cause
A Simple Investigation
Necessary Evil
The Jem'Hadar
The Abandoned
Hippocratic Oath

I'd save the really big guns like ITPM til later because it can be much better-appreciated if watched in order.

Thanks again for all the responses. I have added a poll, and I will play the top episodes at my mini marathon.:)

It depends if he's a Trekkie or not or sorta.

Trekkie-give 'em the Rommies or Klingons-Die is Cast or WoW
Not-give 'em The Visitor

Sorta-I would submit Sacrifice of Angels-kick ass battle

Emissary
Duet
Whispers
The Wire
Crossover
The Way of the Warrior
The Visitor
Trials and Tribble-ations

I think In the Pale Moonlight and Far Beyond the Stars are two of the best episodes in all of Star Trek, much less DS9. My only thing would be that do require some sort of introduction or briefing to fully appreciate them.

Start with Emissary and then skip to the end of Season II's, The Jem'Hadar, and the first episode of Season III. Then, after thus tantalizing him, make him sit through the rest of Seasons One and Two. ;) Lots of character development there that makes the other episodes on the list more significant. imho.

The Visitor should be the first episode IMO. It draws anyone with a soul in.

Next, you go with the Pilot, Emissary.

Why the hell would you lead with In the Pale Moonlight? Sure, its a fantastic episode but if you don't understand the background of whats going on how can you enjoy it?

Oh yeah, Sacrifice of Angels and Call to Arms are very good beginnng episodes also, since they lure in people who love explosions and big battles.
