Agreed.Terra Prime
I have to abstain because the best episode is absent from the list.
How could "The Forge" not be there but "Terra Prime" or "Home" is?
Terra Prime was a nice episode but flawed in many ways. The only things that stand out from the standard action are the Sagan memorial on Mars, Archer's speech and the final scene.
IaMD was entertaining and clever but was pretty low-brow compared to The Forge which was a beautifully sophisticated meditation on the Vulcans.
"The Forge" was a classic with the way the Reeves-Stevenses brought Vulcan, its people, its culture and its history to life. The on-location shots were movie-quality. I loved the shot of Archer and T'Pol as they came upon the Forge itself with the camera panning over this vast desert. It was one of those powerful moments as you realize the history of this region and all the bloody battles that took place here and it all sinks in as to what it really means.
Loved the mysticism, the political intrigue, the somber scene in the room full of flag-draped coffins which were yet another reminder to Archer that his innocence was gone and which was a reminder to the audience of the tumultuous period in the 22nd century before there was a Federation. The episode possessed at certain spots very poetic language appropriate considering the writers. One example is Syrran speaking at the campfire about the Romulans. Loved how smoothly the Reeves-Stevenses incorporated TOS elements such as the sehlat, the IDIC, the Forge, Surak, katra, T'Pau.
Its a crying shame it didn't make it to the second round especially giving how substantive it was as well as being such an important story not just for Enterprise but for Trek mythology as a whole. It and "Twilight" continually remain in my top tier of ENT episodes.
