Best Enterprise Characters

1. Hoshi.
Or is it Linda Park? I never bought into her ability to translate languages after hearing a sentence or two, but she's so sweet, so cute not only in appearance but also in attitudes; how could you hate her?
Very Ezri-like, I guess.

2. Phlox.
He's probably the most realistic character on the show: he has so many facets emanating from so few defining character traits... a lot like real people.
Written very well, acted excellently.

3. Shran.
Such an ego, but he pulls it off magnificently.

4. Soval.
Pretty good character growth, more complex than initially thought.

5. Degra.
He's never that likeable (willing to participate in genocide to save his kind from a vague distant unproven threat?), but he's a strong dramatic character nonetheless.

Other than the 2 examples mentionned, the main cast leaves me quite indifferent.
Unlike DS9 and Voyager, which had terrible characters (e.g. Sisko, Neelix) and great characters (e.g. Quark, Tuvok), ENT has a lot of "meh" characters.
ENT made me realise one thing: it's hard to care for a character unless s/he's fleshed out shortly after being introduced; by the time Reed, Tucker or Travis were fleshed out, it was too late for me to care.
Hell, in the first 3-4 episodes, I wasn't even sure if "Trip" and "Mr. Reed" were different characters or not. You don't recover from that.

Even Archer left me mostly indifferent.

Reed Alert! I guess I like him because he felt like more like a real person than a dramatic character.

Okay, I've only seen the Enterprise series up to season 2 so my top 5 might change in the future as more characters come into the picture. I have to say that although ST Enterprise is one of my favorite series, I have trouble finding 5 characters I really like. But as I was saying: I've only seen the first two seasons, maybe other characters will grow on me.

5. Porthos
This is kind of sad actually because Porthos has made the cut because I ran out of human characters that I like on the show. At first I had Porthos as honorable mention. The idea to bring a dog into space is just awesome.

4. Admiral Forest
Why him? Because I like him in the pilot episode of season 1. I like the way he deals with Archer when T'pol is assigned to the Enterprise by the Vulcans. The whole "I totally agree with you but this is just how it's done" thing just works for me.

3. Malcom Reed
I usually don't particularly care for this type of characters but you gotta love Lieutenant Reed. He just keeps surprising me. His sense of humor and relationships with other characters (especially Trip) is great.

2. Charles Tucker III "Trip"
He's hands down my favorite regular on the show. He just wants to do well, but doesn't think through his actions quite enough. As the show moves on Trip gets more experienced and he learns to see the consequences of his actions and he gets 'smarter'. I like the growth and I look forward to seeing the last two seasons as I've heard he gets the grow even more.

1. Shran
Ah, there's the reason the Andorians are my favorite species. Someone described him as an Andorian Kirk, and I think that's dead on. I love everything from his boldness to the antennae on his head. I once read that if there had been a season 5 of Enterprise, that he would have been on the show as a main character. Too bad that never happened.

I guess we're doing top 5's so:

5) Trip - Kind of an overrated character but he was fun, kind of that Riker type.

4) Reed - Really liked what they did with Reed starting with Minefield through the end of the series

3) Erica Hernandez (I think that's her name) - she was cute and provided a nice foil for Archer

2) Soval - Probably the best developed character on the show. He became a character you absolutely hated to a character you could understand and it was much like the trilogy itself, they repaired the vulcans in those three episodes.

1) Shran - Simply because Jeffrey Combs is awesome.

Did anyone not mention Shran?

*checks*

Wow. In this entire thread, only three or four people failed to mention Shran in their list. That's awesome.

yeah, I realized that too when I was reading. I guess he's just that awesome.
