Re: The DS9 sets are amazing
I agree with everyone else that the Promenade is awesome. And they always seemed to manage to fill it with enough extras, which made it even better. Sometimes I wonder how they afforded to hire so many.
I will disagree about Ops though. It took me forever to decipher the layout as well, and as a result it made it feel unreal. And it just seemed to big and uncoordinated.
On the season 1 DVD there's a special feature in which they discuss the designing of the station and mention that for awhile the concept was for DS9 to be thousands of years old and a conglomeration of many different technologies. I would have loved to see them pull that off. It would have failed miserably or been absoultely glorious. There would have been no middle ground. Probably why the didn't do it.
Ah, but the Promenade WAS mentioned. Quark's Bar was part of a much more massive set, after all. The Promenade really was a brilliant set, and they did a great job of making it feel very expansive.
I've always loved Ops, as well, even if it did take me years to decipher the layout.
