Best deal on a complete series? bootlegs?

I decided to buy one complete trek series right now, just to have on hand for when I need a trek fix.

I remember seeing awhile back on amazon or ebay, that complete series were going for around $150.
I read a review and one user thought they were bootlegs, but still good quality. The art and sleeves seemed good.

I own season 1 of DS9 which I bought at a video store in the mall, and im fairly certain it is %100 authentic, but it was $40 for only one season....

Are the "bootlegs" really bootlegs, and if so, are they worth the $150?

Just use Netflix. Every complete series is on there except Deep Space Nine which is coming in October. :techman:

Bootlegs are persona non grata around here. They're also a ripoff.

I second the Netflix suggestion. I don't own any Star Trek DVDs (except for the recent movie) but I can get them anytime I like. Don't even need to clear shelf space.

I do use netflix right now actually (ive been searching for star trek on netflix for over a year and when I saw it was available to stream I literally danced)

The thing is doesnt netflix take off the shows every couple months?

Also, how much is an authentic complete series?
Thanks for the help guys

(as a side note, I cant recall, what species is the "Vorta" from? Just noticed your screen name, was that from DS9?)

Netflix does sometimes shuffle what series are available for instant viewing based on their contracts with the content producers, but the press release they issued about the various Star Trek series certainly implied it was a long-term deal.

Since you specifically asked about the Vorta, I assume you've seen DS9 or don't care about spoilers, but to be safe, I'll put my answer in a spoiler block:

Vorta is the species. They are part of the Dominion, one of the three main Dominion species. They're the genetically engineered ones who are primarily the "administrators" of the Dominion. Weyoun is the main Vorta character we see throughout the series.

I think I read somewhere that the netflix deal is for two years.

That said, the trick to getting Star Trek DVDs cheap is patience. Keep tabs on any online sales and watch Ebay. Ebay is swarming with bootlegs, so be careful, but there are good deals there.

I managed to snag all seven sevens of Voyager recently for $75 through craigslist of all places.

Bootlegs can also be very useful too. In the correct venue. My friends and I saw Star Trek Eleven on the day it came out, the very next day we got into a discussion/argument over said movie (of course), and what we had just seen.

No problem, simply pulled a very bad bootleg of the movie up on the internet (this was the next day), and our discussion was allowed to continue.

Bootlegs do exist, many are better than others, and they are "persona non grata" only to some around here.

:)

Actually any discussion on how and where to acquire bootlegs is "persona non grata" on this board. I would suggest you folks tread lightly on the subject.

I once ended up with a bootleg of Stargate SG-1, thanks to eBay. 11 episodes crammed onto each disc, tissue paper cd wallets inside a cardboard box, pixellated low-def youtube picture quality, tinny sound and many episodes simply stopped, going to silent credits, before the end.

A month or so later I got the complete official SG-1 box set. It's huge and it's awesome.

After what happened to me I did some research. The knock off sets can be purchased for around $10 -$20 in China. So $150 for a fake set is a fucking joke. According to a few angry reviews I've read, the Trek ones ("The Chosen Collection" being a popular series of fakes but there are countless more) feature several episodes that refuse to play.

Kingdaniel- Ok, I think thats the one I was looking at, thanks for the warning....

Good news is I have 2 years to find them since netflix will have all the series for awhile....so I will keep looking on ebay and craigslist for the real deal...thanks for the help everyone

Covetom- ok....I remember now, the vorta were the gofers of the dominion, the jemhadar were the fighters, and the breen were the contract killers...

cant believe I forgot about the vorta...its been years since I saw DS9...but its also the only series I watched from beginning to end...still my favorite...How I wish I could visit Quarks place eh?
