Khan. He regarded his followers as his family and children, and genetically some of them may have been. In two different realities he showed he would do what it took to keep them alive. Admittedly in the prim timeline he then went off the rails and became a revenge-monster when he could have left with them, but if he had made a world for them using the genesis device it just would have blown up anyway. He's still not as bad as O'brien, Picard, or Worf.

Yeah, Worf does take the prize as worst dad. It's the one character trait that he had that was terrible. (I have often wondered if K'Ehleyr hadn't kept Alexander hidden and Worf was around during his early days that he might have actually been a better dad.)

This might be thinking out of the box, but there are actually worse dads than Worf... the Founders.

They are the worst dads (or moms, depending on what they feel like changing into) in the universe because the Jem'Hadar and Vorta, their 'children' since they created them, are completely disposable to them. They don't nurture them, spend time with them, or anything that comes with being a parent. They just expect the Jem'Hadar and Vorta to "fight for them and to die for them", as Goran'Agar said in "HIPPOCRATIC OATH".

Worf was a shit dad (to be fair he did try at points) because his son wasn't the son he wanted. If he had been around his whole life he'd probably be more what he wanted, so yes he probably would be a better dad in those circumstances.

My vote for the dad of all dads in Star Trek goes to Sergey Rozhenko. Do the math. Raised his own son to be a doctor of some cultual science field. Simultaneously raised an adopted son, from maybe the most alien culture a human could live with, to become a decorated Starfleet officer, & then after all that, in his bergeoning geriatric years, took in his apopted son's son for a spell. Dude is an absolute saint.

I just can't imagine how Worf became such crap at fatherdom with such a magnificent example

And he had a trusted spouse to handle the duties of parenting in his absence. If K'Ehleyr had been in the game, Worf's less than stellar parenting skills wouldn't matter as much.

You know, going back to my last point about Worf ending up a poor father when he'd been given such a fantastic example in Sergey, (who must've had it pretty rough raising the kids he raised) the only thing I can think to explain it is that Worf spent his whole youth being so obsessed with his Klingon heritage & the fate of his birth father, that he in many ways took his adoptive dad for granted, & didn't avail himself of the treasure he'd had, until it came time to offload his own progeny there, which would make him something of a poor son as well.

In fact, not to rail on the guy, but I'm not really convinced he was much of a mate to K'Ehleyr either, apart from avenging her death with violence, & frankly was rather difficult in his other romantic relationships as well. For a dude who never shuts up about honor, I'm not seeing much of it in his personal relationships. Methinks he doth protest too much.
