Best Covers of Beatles Songs

I remember getting hold of some versions of the original songs recorded in German by the Beatles themselves, including "Sie Liebt Dich" and "Komm Gibt Mir Deine Hand." They sounded a little weird, but nevertheless catchy. :bolian:

They're on the Past Masters set. I always wondered who did the translation, though. It's sort of weird, but possibly how young people spoke at the time. The Beatles' first album also got a weird German title, basically describing what it was in words long since fallen into disuse.

(It's "Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand" by the way.)

Steve Hillage did a pretty decent "It's All Too Much", but I generally prefer the originals to the covers when it comes to Beatles songs.

I'm the same way but I always subscribed it to my being such a fangirl and thus biased.
Understandable!

Some info on the two songs in German: [clicky]

If any of your are interested in covers in general, there's a great podcast called Coverville. Every so often, he does cover stories which spotlight artists their covered songs, and every Thanksgiving he does a Beatles themed show.

One of my favorite Beatles' song is "Eleanor Rigby". And two of my favorite covers of it are by Godhead VIDEO, and Wendy Carlos' synthesizer instrumental version of it from her "By Request" album MP3 SAMPLE Clip.

I'm a Beatles snob and IMO, there are really no good Beatles covers. The only things that come close to being decent covers are Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help from My Friends" and most of the songs on the movie Across the Universe.

I think the reason that the covers from Across the Universe were so good was because they put A LOT of effort into doing them justice and doing them correctly. There was no half-assed, artistic interpretation of them.

You must have hated the Sgt Pepper Soundtrack and "All This And WWII". :p
