Actually, I do like the Elton John version... (with a little help from John Lennon apparently)

This cover always brings a smile to my face:

And one of the more unlikely (and pretty good) Beatles covers came from the Madchester era:

But the undoubted master of the Beatles cover was Peter Sellers:

I heard U2's version long before hearing the Beatles'. I was very amused by the realisation that the Macca-sung one was the more chaotic and rockier.

Myk's three would probably have been my first choices, as well, though given more time I'm sure I'll think of others.

This one might not be a first choice for "Best" but it could be filed under "Interesting Beatles Covers":

Rufus Wainwright and Fiona Apple both did version of Across the Universe that I think are actually better than the Beatles version:

How about this?

The Beatles and punk together at last. ;) Come to think of it, with his current band, Paul McCartney is already halfway there. They can do only rocky (e.g. Please Please Me).

I remember getting hold of some versions of the original songs recorded in German by the Beatles themselves, including "Sie Liebt Dich" and "Komm Gibt Mir Deine Hand." They sounded a little weird, but nevertheless catchy. :bolian:

^^ Good choice. :)

These songs, while not written by the Beatles, were famously recorded by them, and I like these particular later cover versions:

How about the entire Across the Universe movie? Weird movie, but great covers...
I completely agree with this. I also enjoy certain covers from the I am Sam soundtrack, especially Ben Folds' cover of "Golden Slumbers." Aerosmith's cover of "Come Together" is another big favorite.

I'm quite fond of The Leisure Society's cover of "Something":

Steve Hillage did a pretty decent "It's All Too Much", but I generally prefer the originals to the covers when it comes to Beatles songs.

They're on the Past Masters set. I always wondered who did the translation, though. It's sort of weird, but possibly how young people spoke at the time. The Beatles' first album also got a weird German title, basically describing what it was in words long since fallen into disuse.

(It's "Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand" by the way.)

I'm the same way but I always subscribed it to my being such a fangirl and thus biased.
