Best Buffy and Angel season

I never got why people hated season 6. The only thing I hate about it was the disgusting Spuffy relationship and all their degrading public sex. I mean how can Buffy have sex while watching her friends dance? WTF come on! It seemed like a stupid fanfiction slash and it should have never happened.
But other than that, I really enjoyed the direction the show went. Instead of having another "Buffy saves the world" season we got to see all the characters depressed and realizing how sucky life can be.

Agreed. It was also, a whole, the season that was the most "together." And from a writing standpoint "smartest" in terms of symbolism and theme play. The whole Buffy kills herself to save herself angle was very creative and original IMO and added a whole new layer to the character.

Also, the acting was pretty much spot on--especially Kramer. I don't think she's given enough credit.

Certainly, the season did have its fair share of stinkers but that whole end arch:

I highly recommend you give it a try. Trust me it's not a girl show and its not cheesy camp (some of the dialogue is but thats done on purpose)

I voted for Buffy season three, which just barely edged out season five by virtue of the presence of Faith and the Mayor.

I haven't seen all of Angel yet, so really can't vote there.

I voted for Angel season 1 in the memory of Doyle (and his late interpreter Glenn Quinn). This character didn't last long enough to my taste.

With Buffy, I can't choose between S. 2, 3 and 5. (Distant blur in my memory.)

See, I think the thing with Angel season 4 is that you either love it or hate it. I've encountered very few fans who had ambiguous feelings about this particular season.

Me, I thought it was hands down the best season of the series...it was insane, moving so fast that you don't really notice the logic gaps and inconsistencies until later viewings. The season was almost 24-esque in how serialized and temporally compressed it was. And bonus points for casting Gina Torres as the bad guy (especially since Firefly had just been cancelled and I guess she had the time on her hands).

I was thinking the same thing - I have to say it improved on a repeat viewing recently but it's still pretty dire.

Season 5 with Glory and her minions and the Knights of Byzantium. Show should have ended after the finale. Would have been perfect closure.

Rewatching it I decided I really didn't like much of season 5 as an arc. The big bad is revealed far too early, only has one goal which they have to stretch over an entire season, isn't even that interesting or engaging a character, and the ending makes absolutely no logical sense.
Some very good episodes in the season, no doubt. But the season as a whole is lacking, imho.
