Best and worst acting by main characters

VOY
Worst: Russ (Played Tuvok like his other TV rolls, dry and boring.)
Sounds like he played it like a Vulcan...
:vulcan:
Yes, I got the impression that Tuvok was your typical Vulcan, if there is such a thing. Of course some (many) of them will be dry and boring from a human perspective. Many people seem to expect that every Vulcan will be like Spock, but Spock is certainly not a typical Vulcan. And I wouldn't expect every "pure" Vulcan to have Sarek's presence, either. There are many different Vulcans just as there are many different humans. Sometimes it seems that people just expect all Vulcans to act the same, and then actors get criticized either for playing them " too emotional" or "dry and boring". :vulcan:

Leonard Nimoy is a no-brainer for TOS. As for worst, I always found George Takei awkward in his role. Sorry.

TNG had the obvious talent of Patrick Stewart. Brent Spiner was much overrated, but still good of course. I see no clear "worst" here, except Wil Wheaton never thrilled me.

DS9 had many great actors. I suppose, all things considered, it would be between Colm Meaney and René Auberjonois for best. Avery Brooks was powerful, but a little over-the-top sometimes. Worst would have to be Terry Farrell.

VGR on the other hand lacks a clear standout actor. I have to admit I found Robert Picardo grating as time went on. But sure he's good. Altogether I'd say Tim Russ. Unlike what some people have said, Garrett Wang is in no way bad, it's his role that people really dislike. Top dishonors go to Robert Beltran. "Wooden" is his middle name. And Jeri Ryan, interesting as her role was, was way too one note in it. So she gets runner-up.

ENT had two strong co-leads in Connor Trineer and Jolene Blalock. John Billingsley is great in everything he does. And of course Anthony Montgomery didn't have a trailer on the ENT set, but was stored overnight with the other props.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt until I saw him in Samantha Who. At first I thought the joke was that he was playing his vulcan character on that show. Then I saw him in something else and it was "same as it ever was". At that point I begin to think that he can only play one character profile.

On the positive side, he is aging well. Who would have guessed that he is 53! I hope I look that young at 53.
