Best age to start watching Doctor Who?

I didn't have that early childhood experience to offer a recommendation. One of my two PBS affiliates, WFSU, did not start airing it until August 1982 when I was nearly 20. My closest analog was seeing a few moments of Trek's "Doomsday Machine" during its initial broadcast. That iconic head on shot with the weapon slowing filling the screen accompanied by Fred Steiner's "Jaws" like music literally sent me cowering behind my father's favorite Danish Modern easy chair! But then, I was easily spooked. In the early 70s, a childhood friend described some scenes from the recently released "Willy Wonka" and made them sound like something from the "Saw" films! (Nowadays, I'm watching "Ash vs. Evil Dead" and I barely bat an eye.)

Sincerely,

Bill

I think it depends on the child in question, so you can't say that generally. You also can chose an episode that is not full of blood or beheaded people or so. Many are not too bloody. If he's not interested he will go away soon.

I watched Star Trek as a 4 year old and it didn't harm me (I guess...)

I started watching Doctor Who at 4 or 5...the Tom Baker era.

I suddenly became a man when Leela came onscreen (pun not intended).

Seeing Mary Tamm wasn't so bad either.
