Best actor on ENT?

Connor Trinneer and John Billingsley are a tie for me.

In general, I actually really like Scott Bakula, I have since I was a kid, back in the Quantum Leap days, however...he's always kind of the same in his roles. He seems to have no real range of emotion. That being said, I actually loved him as Archer...the part suited him. I just think that Connor and John are the better actors.

While I'm at it, Anthony Montgomery was sorely underused. He was soooooo hot and a fairly good actor from what I could tell.

I would agree with John Billingsley and Conor Trineer; both have a certain 'natural' quality that makes us believe in their characters.

However, I think that Jolene Blalock probably had the most difficult role to play, particulary in terms of how much emotion was believable and necessary to show as T'Pol progressed through Season 3 and 4. For the most part, I think she got the subtlely and nuances just right.

I forgot to mention, and feel free to disagree with me on this, I preferred Mayweather as a character to Ensign Kim from Voyager. But in terms of acting, Garret Wang was able to show more range. Shame that they gave him even more to do during Voyager than they gave to Anthony Montgomery during Enterprise.

Montgomery and Keating were, to me, by far the worst. Montgomery finally got something to work with as the series was coming to an end, with the storyline during Demons/Terra Prime and I thought he was just awful. Sorry if that sounds harsh.

As for the best, I enjoyed Bakula even though I don't think in a technical sense he is a great actor. He's essentially playing Scott Bakula. As an actual acting performance, on a consistent basis, I would say Billingsley, and it's not close.

I don't think Scott Bakula was playing Scott Bakula, but I get your meaning. Archer, until season 3, wasn't as developed. Mostly, he was a "dreamer with father issues." I like the direction of that character, but think season 3 really added dimension to him.

Billingsley on the other hand was given a very Neelix-like character and managed to flesh out (so to speak) that role. For example, there's something about his performance that I think added to the writing. And I don't think that happens often.

Awww, I didn't think Montgomery or Keating was terrible, but do think Demons/Terra Prime's plot line was incredibly weak. The Mayweather romance was particularly a waste of screen time, but I don't really see that as Montgomery's fault ... just really uninspiring writing.

You know, I really didn't like Voyager, but I was never bothered (irritated) by Ensign Kim. I thought overall the actor did a nice job with what they gave him.

Overall, I think most of the actors for Star Trek have been very good. And I actually think the Enterprise cast was the best ... and that's from a major TOS fan.

I can agree with this assessment. I think the 3rd season added a LOT to the Archer character. In fact it was SB's performance near the end of the season that brought me back to ENT. And then I watched it all from the beginning (having stopped watching originally after the first couple of episodes in the first season).

I stand by my vote for Trinneer, but I do think that Archer got much, much better in the 3rd season and I don't have issues with SB's acting.

I somewhat agree, essentially. I think season 3 was Scott's best presentation of Archer. He seemed to respond quite well to Archer's taking personal responsibility for saving Earth with the exception of a few unavaoidable acting gaffs (yelling scene in Harbinger and Extinction). It certainly beat the first 2 seasons where I barely noticed the captain

That is why I considered season 4 such a setback for the character. I consider his decision to shoe horn Archer in as this charismatic swashbuckling hero Starfleet captain, Manny Coto's only big mistake in season 4.

It was a role which required an actor who possessed, or could at least fake, the charisma and bravado necessary to make Archer as "action hero" work. But this is just not where Scott's strengths as an actor lie. Showing compassion, deperately trying to help, these seem to be characteristics that make up Scott's personality which in turn made it easy for him to tranfer these characteristics to Archer. That is why season 3 Archer worked so well.

Billingsley. His character was great fun to watch and was amusing too, especially his mannerisms.

I'm not sure what to make of Trinneer. I'm having a hard time determining whether it was the actor or the character that annoyed me. Probably the character. Honestly, Trip has always seemed to have irked me.

Agreed. I believe it's in the episode Catwalk, but there's a scene were Phlox is walking down a corridor and his communicator beeps, and just the way he says "Doctor Phlox" cracks me up everytime I hear it.

I thought FTW was "For the Win" *shrug*

I - Surak - never heard FTW as used for "For the win"
But then I have to admit that my human host is usually "hanging with the wrong crowd".

Curiouser and curiouser...

No amount of meditation could have prepared Surak's Katra for being stuck inside this human.
That this simpleton would fall in love with a Vulcan science officer is completely illogical.
I can only assume that it was Ms.Blalock's suberb acting as
she is also Surak's choice for best actor in ENT.
