Benjamin Bratt guests on L&O (major spoiler)

Mr. Laser Beam

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
BB must have been busy with something else (possibly The Cleaner) because he was only onscreen for a couple of minutes, he came back to see Van Buren. Dude hasn't aged much, he looked almost exactly like he did when he was on the show, and that was 10 years ago.

Poor guy...Deborah (Rey Curtis' wife) has finally died of MS. :( This really hit home for me because my mother died of the same illness back in '81.

Also sad to see Van Buren's health worsening. I suspect that even if L&O lasts another season, she might not...

Didn't he retire from NYPD to take care of his wife? It was a cameo sort of like when they bring Dr Oviet (spelling?) or Dr Scrota back. Different from when Paul Robinette shows up as defense counsel.

And didn't Curtis mention that he's going back to California? I wonder if he got that job as a consultant for that movie studio from Season 7?

Boy, what a sad episode! It got tears from me, especially the mention of Lennie...:( S. Epatha Merkerson is all kinds of awesome. She was great last night. BB was good in his scenes, too, however short his appearance.

Rey said in this episode that he is from California. They buried Deborah on Long Island because that's where her family is from.

Fuck - missed it - thought L&O had gone into hybernation with everything else either that or the station carrying in ontario has put into hybernation.

I love Law and Order, but I never watch it these days (don't even know what night it's on). Sad about Ray's wife in the show, although was the point of the cameo just for that?

It was because of the LTs storyline. Her story, Det Curtis's wfe and Det Briscoe's daughter are weak links to the overall story IMO. Just doing ripped from the headlines stories with different detectives and ADAs is the strength.

It was a good episode, on the level I expected from recent Law & Order.

I would love to see Bratt come back to the series. When he was on originally, he was the green naive detective that was so optimistic in comparison to Jerry Orbach or Chris Noth's characters at the time. He's ten years older now and has that experience.

As for Van Buren, it seems like the powers that be are really setting her up for a grand exit and I don't think we'll have to wait until season's end to see it.

I missed it too -- I thought its winter break had already started. Guess I'll have to catch it when it repeats...

Hmm... Well, as a widower, he's single again -- maybe he finally decided to hook up with Lauren Graham's character from the 3-parter that ended Season 7. ;)

The odds are that this is Vanilla's final season, anyway.

If this is their last season, they should try to bring as many people back as they can like ER did. Maybe McCoy is shot in an attempted murder and that brings back Logan, Green, Curtis, Schiff, Ross, Carmichael, etc. to help find the guy. Or scatter their appearances throughout the episodes for something individually related.

Did the show ever get picked up for a 22 episode season? In May it was picked up for 13 episodes. However the overall viewership numbers are amazing considering it's on NBC, it's on Friday, it's on NBC, there are no ads, it's on NBC. :)

^ Which probably means death sentence.

I don't recall reading that it'd been picked up for a full order.

Wikipedia only lists 12 episodes completed so far.

I believe the full-season order was for 16 episodes, no more.

The Wire was doing a good job at that. For example a homeless guy at second look was one of the longshoremen. But even with many dead characters they still rushed the process in the last episode as they ran out of time.

Since this is the most recent L&O thread, did anyone see that Criminal Intent is losing Vincent D’Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, Eric Bogosian AND Julianne Nicholson? After only one (half) season, Jeff Goldblum is now the senior cast member!

Saffron Burrows is the new partner and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is the new boss. I guess no more split shows either.
