Beltran to play Chak in the next Renegades

Wow ... Beltran in a Fan Film ... how the mighty have fallen. The poor guy's got no pride, left. He must really be down on his luck. But if it keeps him off the streets ... well, then, I suppose ...

Well, although I am not a fan of Beltran (and Chakotay), I understand that the actor became less demanding in his choices because let us be honest, after having spent 7 years on STV (and have made noticed a lot by his criticisms), he didn't make much afterward, right?!. Furthermore, he is a head of the family with 2 mouths to be fed and in this case, he has to accept whatever comes, even if he knows that it is bad.
.

True ... Man cannot live on pride, alone. Even with this ... this gig ... the Beltran family's going to have to continue living sensibly, to be sure. Printing out coupons from The Internet and so forth. Dining Out may have been the norm during Voyager's initial run, but you're quite right ... once Beltran left the show, his became a falling star. I can't explain what happened, there. I can only surmise that, as with so many other stars from this franchise, having been in STAR TREK held his career back. I happen to be a fan of the Chakotay character and find Beltran to be a capable actor.

It could be worse. A friends daughter was over last week watching tv. And there was Tim Russ in a recurring role in one of those godawful Nikolodeon/Disney Tween Sitcoms. I think actual porn might have been less demeaning and have higher quality writing.

Your signature?

Are you hitting on Teacake, or a different Aussie on this board?
HA! ... What a suggestion.

My signature has to do with STAR TREK, actually ... after a fashion. I post poetry on these boards, along with accompanying STAR TREK-themed photographs. One being of Kaitlin Hopkins:

.... whom you may recognise as Dala, from VOY. Curious as to what else she's been in, one feature was ... Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (2001). She plays an American schoolteacher who's in love with Dundee's buddy Jacko - whose photo's in my avatar. This got me to thinking about Foster's Beer ... and it's many slogans, of which my signature is one. Another is: Fosters - Australian for Beer.

So, there it is, in a nutshell - or a Fosters can, if you like. No hitting-ons. No teacakes. No Australian women, of any kind. Just good, old fashioned, STAR TREKKIAN wholesomeness, sir!

Australia is full of beautiful women guarded by snakes and crocodiles.

Tim Russ is directing Renegades?

(Yes, he is.)

The Boys from Voyager still have dinner once a month.

After 7 bottles of wine... Tim says "Duuuuude! C'mon! Duuuude! Be in my new fanfilm, show the world who Chakotay really is! LET HIM ROAR! Who drank my glass? This thingy was full a second ago?! Stop stealing from me Robert!"

I haven't looked up the plot for episode two, but there's a character in there that is dead by the time that Voyager gets home.

So we're possibly either looking at Time Travel or flashbacks.

Which means that Rob and others might have to fake it seeming 20 years youngers younger for a little while.

bah, some of those (The Disney ones anyway) aren't so bad.

I suspect any Trek regular could 'feed their families' by con appearances alone.

Lol... pride and an empty sack are worth the empty sack.

Anyway, this announcement doesn't do anything for me. What always killed me about Beltran's whining about nothing to do on Voyager, bad writing, etc. is this: An excellent actor can make or break most dialogue. Colm Meaney and Dwight Schultz are just two actors who come to mind when intentionally given bit parts with limited dialogue. It is because of what they did with the lines they had, that the actors themselves essentially carved more "full time" roles for themselves. Beltran was given a full time role, and as far as I am concerned, managed to convince writers NOT to write for him based upon lackluster performances.

He was there to fall in love with the captain.

Mulgrew vetoed him as a lover.

No reason to be on set after that.

Do you know why Mulgrew vetoed a Janeway/Chakotay storyline?
(I'm not a fan of Janeway/Chakotay SL myself so I was happy with the fact that they don't end together - in the same time, I think that Chakotay/Seven was completly stupid!)
I mean, I understand that she wanted more exploration of the loneliness of command and of the fact of being the sole representative of Starfleet in the Delta Quadrant.
Plus, she has said repeatedly that she thought it would be inappropriate for Janeway and Chakotay to have a love affair even though they are still far away from Earth, though their friendship seems confirmed (what I don't really get because friendship includes trust, what let me sceptical as seing as each time she let him in charge of Voyager, he disobeyed her orders).
Anyway, I learnt that Mulgrew had helped in the writing of Endgame and I suspect that the idea of Chakotay / Seven was hers ...

As for Beltran being in the next episode of Renegade, I wonder if 1) his character, Chakotay, will still be a Starfleet member; 2) if he will have taken some rank or if he'll always be Commander; 3) if there will be a reference (ven brief) to Seven about what she became since their return to earth AND of course, about their marital status (still married or separated) in order to show a certain continuity.

Do you know why Mulgrew vetoed a Janeway/Chakotay storyline?

From listening to the chatter here, Kate Mulgrew was against any man turning Janeway into a second class Captain. With her 1970/80s mind set, Kate was afraid of her character either becoming a "man's property" or a "dipshit in love" which would detract form the hard assedness of Janeway.

(So, no men for her, including Chakotay. Although, depending on how you look at it, they could have just played holodeck in Resolutions and sport####ed for the months we didn't see while that tomato tree was growing.)

Tom in the Voyager Bible was described as the love interest for Janeway, but it took Berman two and half years to address that point, and then they took a step back because Threshold was reviled.

Legend has it that there's a cut scene where Janeway and Chakotay Kiss in... Hunters? Google says Hunters. I would have thought Year of Hell, but there's nothing on Youtube, so whereever their f grade porn is, it hasn't surfaced yet and probably never will

Rules of Acquisition .... I should've guessed!

I've already stated that I'm concerned for Beltran having to resort to Fan Films, now that his star has dimmed, considerably. But thanks to Corran Horn's observation on convention appearances being able to sustain Robert and the others, I'm beginning to suspect that it may simply be that Beltran's looking to get fans at these autograph signings and so forth, to spend more money on him. I mean ... if it were me, personally, if I ever starred in a Trek show, I'd just move on. Even if I had to leave Show Biz, due to a lackluster career (... HA!!!) I would never go to conventions and such.

I don't want these peasants pawing me, shaking my hand and putting their paws all over me, whilst they blind me taking a photograph ... and trying to engage me in banal conversation. The Q&A sessions, I would excel at, however, because I've got the mic. If I don't want to answer someone's fool question, I can just switch gears and talk about what I'm interested in. I like that. Otherwise, my god ... it's bad enough that it hurt my pride, but it has to be such a thankless chore, besides. The money wouldn't ever be enough ... that's for damn sure. I'd model at an Art School, or something ... I'd get by, somehow, trust me. And doing Fan Films would be completely out of the question.

WHAT? wouldn't work when you cast Mcneil. brrr...

That's an urban legend. nothing more. One of those 'if it's on the internet it must be true!'

In the beginning, Tom is nearly 30, and Janeway is in her very early thirties.

(I'm using a denial-filter.)

I'm not sure if there's an age difference to complain about?

Although Bujold, had 13 years on Mulgrew.

Or do you think Tom too much of a boy to go after that much woman?

Guy> not about the #. He is a boy in a 30 year old body sometimes. Although age can have its complications, not as much as personality clash. In fact, taken from my own personal experience, I have found my children's father (5 years younger than I) to be frustrating but equally important to helping me take the stick out of my arse. I'm a serious person most of the time. What you see here is how I am maybe 20% of the time in real life. I'm a work in progress to be more outgoing and having a sense of humor. but in Tom's case, he lacks compatibility for her. They'd have to tweak him or her a bit for it to work, imo. Now it's clear they moved away from that idea as i see her looking out for him rather than a love interest so perhaps that's another notch in my bias towards seeing them as a couple. I hope I articulated my point. Reading back it's not flowing as I'd like ;)
