^^ Thanks, that's good to know. I had a feeling they had something long term in mind.

Where in Canada is this being filmed? It's definitely not Vancouver.

And on the ratings front:

Syfy's ‘Being Human' Draws Nearly 2 Million Viewers

Syfy's supernatural series Being Human scared up 1.9 million viewers, becoming the most watched winter series launched for the network since 2005.

The series, which tells the story about a vampire, werewolf and ghost who share a Boston brownstone, fell short of the 3.5 million viewers garnered by the network's last series debut, Warehouse 13, in 2009. Being Human did draw 1 million Adults 18-49, including 582,000 women -- the highest percentage of female viewers ever for a Syfy original scripted series telecast, said the network.

Including repeat airings at 10:02 p.m. and 11:02 p.m., Being Human reached an unduplicated audience of 3.8 million total viewers, including 1.8 million Adults 18-49 and 1.9 million Adults 25-54, said the network.

After reading comments here, I decided to watch this during dinner. WOW, that was much better than I had expected.

I'm actually someone that went in almost wanting to dislike it as typical Syfy crap, but I'm at least tuning in next week to see what happens. It's nice to have even minimal excitement about a TV show these days, for me.

I forgot to mention, I also found this funnier than the original. I guess I just "get" American humour better, at this point.

I bet Dracula is spinning in his grave right now.

Wow, Vampires aren't real, you can have different takes on the mythos.

Vampires that aren't hurt by the sun? NP, its a unique story. Not a documentary.

Re: Being Human: "There Goes the Neighborhood, Part 1" - Jan. 17 on Sy

^ Well Bram Stoker's Dracula happens to be one vampire that can walk around in broad daylight.

Sunlight first became harmful to vampires in the movie Nosferatu.

I didn't realize it was supposed to be set in Boston. That makes it even cooler. :mallory:

I see you are a man who likes to have the last word on a matter. I will not be drawn into such a childish exercise.

Paloshtoi.

Incidentally, in the UK version it is addressed that while they don't spontaneously combust in the presence of sunlight, it does make them uncomfortable and hurts their eyes. For what it's worth, as I recall that is more or less the same as how the vampire's in Bram Stoker's novel were represented. No idea if any of this applies to this new knock-off series.

Re: Being Human: "There Goes the Neighborhood, Part 1" - Jan. 17 on Sy

And that's a damn cool house they've got there. :mallory:
Yeah, it was. It was pretty big too.

One unamusing rough edge was the Vampire's murder of that girl; I was surprised they took it that far and I'm very curious to see where the storyline goes.

If it follows along the same lines as the UK version that is a very important aspect of the first season. I won't spoil it by telling you what happens in case it does go that way but it's not just some random kill to show that he can and does slip occasionally.
I noticed that they were going somewhere with that. I'll just have to wait and see if what I'm thinking plays out.

I figured that she will become a vampire.
It's apparently filmed in Montreal.
Yep.

If the US version ends up having the same storylines you may not want to read this in case it's a major spoiler, but if you're fine with spoilers...
Yep, that she does. She not only becomes a vampire but is used as a lure to bring Mitchell (Aidan) back in to the vampire family.
She tries to seduce him both sexually and with blood, sending him a DVD of herself having sex with, then killing another man. She also tries to give up blood herself which she fails and ends up back with Herrick (Bishop) while Mitchell has something of a crisis of confidence and comes to believe he's wrong in trying to be more human after their neighbours turn against him believing him to be a paedophile. Which culminates in George and Annie (Josh and Sally) breaking in to the vampires lair to save him and the girl helps them escape. During the escape she realises she can't live her life as a vampire and can't live without the blood and stakes herself.
Later Herrick comes to their house and stakes Mitchell but doesn't manage to kill him, which leads George to go and lock himself in with Herrick before changing in to the wolf, but his new girlfriend Nina follows and accidentally gets scratched by George as he tries to push her out of the room mid-change.

^ I'm tempted to look, but I'll wait it out and check back here later.

Probably a good idea. It spoils right to the end of the season and it'd be a shame if they really do follow it down to the letter and you know exactly what'll happen.

I, on the other hand, love Spoilers. Thanks. :D

Re: Being Human: "There Goes the Neighborhood, Part 1" - Jan. 17 on Sy

I liked it better than I thought I would. I wasn't sure that I'd like the actors as well as I do the UK actors, but they are ok.

Re: Being Human: "There Goes the Neighborhood, Part 1" - Jan. 17 on Sy

I find this cast more likable. Look at me, I'm gushing! Could it be that this is one of the few remakes that ends up better than the original? The Office certainly proved it's possible.

Has that whet your apetite for where the series may be heading? I know there'll be differences, for one thing George doesn't have a sister, lesbian or otherwise, so I assume there will be some quite big deviations, but it sounded like they intend to go a similar route with the plot.

In fact the first episode was very like the now forgotten pilot episode that contained a mostly different cast. The role of George's sister was played by George's ex-girlfriend. That episode had a slightly darker more gothic tone to it than the series does, although the series can be very dark it balances it with humorous moments, too.

I'm personally looking forward to seeing where both series go with series 3 about to start in the UK and the US series running they could very well compliment each other.

Re: Being Human: "There Goes the Neighborhood, Part 1" - Jan. 17 on Sy

Between the Spoilers and the previews that they ran I'm very interested in seeing how it all plays out. It looks like it will be a good show.

Re: Being Human: "There Goes the Neighborhood, Part 1" - Jan. 17 on Sy

I couldn't get all the way through it myself. The concept seems fairly cool, and I was kinda intrigued by the vampire guy for a bit, but in the end the characters just felt like the same ones I've seen a dozen times before. And the angst from the werewolf guy was just tiresome.
