Josh is miserable after his latest full moon transformation resulted in him waking up next to a bloody dead deer in the woods. Aidan, having made a terrible mistake himself when he accidentally killed the woman he was with the night before, suggests that he and Josh should live together so they can watch out for each other. When they've found the perfect apartment, they realise the place comes with its own ghost, Sally. Meanwhile, the leader of the vampires, Bishop, is trying hard to lure Aidan back into the fold.

I'm guessing that this is the American adaption to the Britih series?

If so, how does it hold up against the British series?

^Hasn't aired yet. Tonight is the first episode.

As a big fan of the UK version, I'll tune in for this, but my expectations aren't being set too high.

Re: Being Human: "There Goes the Neighborhood, Part 1" - Jan. 17 on Sy

I hope it's not as emo and annoying as the ads have made it seem.

Hmmmm....

Not to worry - it's the start of the UK series 3 next Sunday.

So, basically a rehash of the start of the British one. Meh. Dare I say again, meh.

I heard about this show and thought about checking it out, not expecting much and ended up loving it. It hit the ground running within the first minute, kept my attention and now it has me looking forward to next week. It wasn't the campfest full of clichés I was expecting. It was actually well made. I'm interested in these characters' journeys, especially Sally's. Meagan Rath is pretty easy on the eyes by the way. Like Supernatural, it looks like this series will feature a bevy of hot ladies. I had to say that. I also liked one thing this show did that a number of shows like Lost and The Walking Dead failed to do... Someone asked direct questions right away. "Why are you dead?" Good work. And speaking of Lost and Supernatural, it's nice to see Mark Pellegrino onboard, but his hair was awfully yellow. Anyway, I'll be tuning in. There was a one-hour live-audience interview with the cast after the episode and Sam Witwer says it gets better.

I've never seen the British series by the way.

Why are the vampires immune to sunlight? Is this so in the British version as well?

^ it is. Hey, at least they don't sparkle.

Having grown to love the original, I was expecting to hate this, but was actually pleasantly surprised. It was faster paced (15 minute loss in episode length helps, I reckon), and I like the inclusion of the werewolf's lesbian sister. Also, that cliffhanger's a doozy. It gives me some hope that they'll take the show in new directions, instead of just rehashing the original's arcs.

I bet Dracula is spinning in his grave right now.

Re: Being Human: "There Goes the Neighborhood, Part 1" - Jan. 17 on Sy

Yeah, that was quite a cliffhanger!

Re: Being Human: "There Goes the Neighborhood, Part 1" - Jan. 17 on Sy

I thought it was OK. In the same way the Showtime Shameless was OK. I think it'll improve when it goes off on it's own course but as it was it just made me want to watch the UK show again. I think I'll keep watching, or at least will watch them both at some point.

It was. More angst in one episode than in an entire season of Smallville.

And what was up with Mark Pellegrino's hair?!? That was a pretty bad wig.

Even though it was too emo (I wish we could get a better word than that) for me I still found enough to make me want to see more of it. The world they live in interests me. How do all the monsters out there interact? Are there more than vampires, werewolves and ghosts? Is it like Supernatural with all kinds of different creatures or just these?

I read somewhere that season 3 of the original will be introducing zombies. The premise of both shows reminds me of this comic book series that started last year, iZombie, about a dead girl (turns out she's more of a revenant, really) who likes brains, and has a ghost & were-terrier friend. And a mummy mentor. And vampires and monster hunters and Frankenstein monster's wife are all somehow involved as well. Quite fascinating.

The first 30 minutes were good, but then I got bored. I'll give another shot if I can remember to DVR it.

I, ZOMBIE is great. I'm really enjoying it.

Re: Being Human: "There Goes the Neighborhood, Part 1" - Jan. 17 on Sy

I didn't expect much from this based on the previews; I only tuned in because I was interested in the Werewolf character. It was much better than I expected, though. And that was the best cliffhanger I've seen in a long time.

It's really an appealing set of characters, played by good actors, who are in an interesting situation. The characters are likable enough that you care about what happens to them, but certainly have some amusing rough edges, such as Josh's rudeness and Ghost Girl's voyeurism. One unamusing rough edge was the Vampire's murder of that girl; I was surprised they took it that far and I'm very curious to see where the storyline goes.

And that's a damn cool house they've got there. :mallory:

If it follows along the same lines as the UK version that is a very important aspect of the first season. I won't spoil it by telling you what happens in case it does go that way but it's not just some random kill to show that he can and does slip occasionally.
