Being Erica.

We've just started getting s1 in Australia, up to ep 5 this week.

I tuned in because I could relate to the premise, there are many many points in my life I wish I could go back and change. Including losing my virginity. :D

Erin Karpluk is very cute and has a winning personality, and Dr Tom is intriguing. But, as a guy, I do have to add that sometimes it's so sweet I get a sugar headache.

I know how you feel. The premise is interesting, it's well-written and the characters are good... but tone DOWN the saccharine every now and then!

Anyway, I thought the season premier was quite good. Was kind of refreshing to have an episode that didn't focus on one of Erica's problems.

....

My one question is... At the end when the guy opened the door to the storage room, Erica saw an outdoor environment with a man sitting at a picnic table. What was that all about?

The man sitting outside was the man from the start of the episode, who bumped into Erica and got her to get to get a coffee at Coblins.

Introducing Nadja has opened the door to other people who also have some kind of paranormal therapy like Erica has.
So the coffeetender has also some issues he deals with the help of another therapist.
What I don't get is, why Erica went there again. It was as if the writers wanna setup some "affair" with this guy, through their shared therapy methods.

I wonder when Erica will tell her boyfriend about her unusual therapy though.

And I especially liked the part, when Erica went to Yahoo with the old iMac G3, and the pages took some time to load.

We would be to impatient today I think.

I also really enjoyed the premiere and thought it was unusually "deep". The Dr. Tom background was great. I'm guessing Erica didn't go back into her own past as a dancer at the bar and that "Red" was someone she "leaped" into. That would have been too much of a coincidence that pre-Dr Tom had been there without Erica remembering. It was funny seeing Erica's publishing boss there though.

And the bit at the end where Erica wondered if Dr Tom was alive or dead or an angel was interesting -- she did see him jump off the building after all...

I got the impression it was indeed supposed to be Erica. Then again, it is kind of hard to say... aside from Dr. Tom, no one called her "Erica" in the past, and we didn't see any of the other characters she knew at the time. Still, "leaping" into someone else seems to be a little outside of the show's concept to me.

Also, I didn't notice the guy at the end was the same as the one who directed Erica to the shop. However, I blame this on the fact that CBC.ca's streaming video was being finicky and I had to watch the show over the course of several hours.

I got a quote for y'all.

" I just hope it wasn't yet another of
your dreary suicide attempts. You
know what they say about people who
who commit suicide. In the afterlife,
they become civil servants."

Michael McDowell. Bettlejuice.

Hmmm?

They take a suicide. Hell bound what ever. Fix'em up and flip them. Like fattening up a turkey before slaughter or brushing a slaves teeth before you put him on the auction block. Turning a lemon into a peach basically. besides if you have to spend the rest of time with a coworker, isn't it better if they ain't wining about all there pissy regrets for the rest of eternity?

So, in the pilot, before she met Doctor Tom, that was the day Erica killed herself.

So yup, sane people agree with Richard.

Of course if Tom is in hell for suicide, was Nadja condemned for being a lesbian?

I'm really enjoying this season with the way they're shaking things up and breaking away from season one's formula. The most recent episode with her in the future was a good one. I'm a little more convinced now that she will indeed become a "therapist" at some point. It could happen at the end of the show's run, but it might be fascinating if that happened before then and the show followed her exploits as "Dr. Erica". I was aslo wondering if she'd have to die for that to happen, but that seems a little out of place for this show and her character so something else might serve as her "transformation".

Kinda like how "Da Vinci's Inquest" followed Dominic when he became mayor and became "Da Vinci's City Hall".

I liked the episode too, and it was different to see Erica in the future for a change (though she wasn't really herself in this timeframe). Also, the twist that "present" Kai is actually future Kai on a time-trip into the past who refuses to return is interesting. I'm not sure how that works though, since there doesn't seem to be any choice on Erica's part on when she returns to the present.

I really enjoyed the latest episode myself (just finished watching). Most definitely a refreshing twist they've put on the concept this year... Erica helping herself through helping others, in many ways.

So Kai is doing it with Erica's sister and after I stop screaming "Wrong!" 'Naughty!" and "Stop!" I do begin to wonder if he's carrying any futuristic STD's that 2009 just is in no way prepared for?

^ I don't think there's any physical time travel involved, is there? I mean, when Erica went back to her childhood, she was a little girl, not a 32 year-old woman.

That, and this is the CBC we're talking about, I doubt they'd even think of going there. They'll throw up a nudity warning for a woman's bra appearing. :p

the show is changing. the swearing is novel. Nudity is just around the corner next unless I blinked and missed someone's lady nipple peeking out from the usual obscurity.

We see Erica as an adult when she travels.

Possibly the same rules as Quantum leap apply where there's a cast Aura which over shadows the time travellers physical appearance...

Kai doesn't seem any different on either side of the decade we've seen him, which might actually mean that we the viewers (and possibly Erica?) do see him in his real appearance, while everyone else views the countenance of a child an entire generation thinner and dumber.

Another great episode this week! This season has been great. And last week with the focus on Dr. Tom and his issues with his daughter was quite good too. Season finale next week, and it looks good!

On a related note, I really like the theme song by Lily Frost and was pleased to find the full length version on iTunes. Good song.

^ Yeah, I've been meaning to get that song.

As for next week's season finale, I'm expecting another big cliffhanger that either puts a twist on things or expands the mythology a bit more.

The season finale just aired. Kai did what he had to do and went back to the future, and Erica dumped that boyfriend who was trying to hold her back. Good for both of them. We even got another "Dr. Erica" hint when Erica was pretending to be Kai's therapist. Then there's the ending. It wasn't as big a twist as the season 1 finale, but it was alright. Looks like it served as both a cliffhanger and an ending in case the show doesn't get picked up for a third season. I wonder what happened when she stepped through the door.

So she's either going to be a therapist or step into Kai's word to chase down her man?

The Future didn't seem that different?

Though I would have thuoght, for all their affection toward the end that boffing her sister, no disrespect tot he movie of mr Woody Allen, would have been a deal breaker?

With all the time traveling and stuff, shouldn't this thread be in the scifi forum rather?

Anyway, I recently had the chance to catch this show and its quickly climbed its way to the top of my list of favorite shows. So thank you guys for introducing Being Erica to me.
