Being Erica.

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Pretty Canadian redhead gal in her early 30s leads an unfulfilled life. She goes to therapist to whine and complain, but she's sent back in time to relive pivotal points in her development and "pull at the threads comprising the tapestry of her life" instead?

I'm not sure what to make of this one?

The therapist could be Satan. Could be God? Satan is better. Butterfly effecting her into a state of nonexistence. That would be fun. But then he could just be drugging and hypnotizing her into thinking she's traveling back in time because he's just a regular old head shrinker? O. The Therapist might be her dead brother when/if he had grew into his 60s trying to bring himself back to life?

Meh?

44 minute TV show, by the way.

Hah, I'm not afraid to admit that the only reason why I am considering watching the show is because the girl is kind of cute.

Light scifi should be interesting... but then again, this type of "woman in the world" show is about as grating as "stupid man with hot smart wife" show so common on American TV.

I've found that because Canadians make infinitely less TV than OTHER countries that they have more quality control in place. I sat down and watched 12 episodes of Privileged last week and combined it had about half as much depth as the single episode of "Being Erica" I observed this morning, which is fairly comparing apples against apples since both shows are about overeducated under achieving beautiful little red heads trying to figure out why their lives are wrong.

I tuned in because of Erin Karpluk too, but I thought the show was pretty good on its own. At one point it looked like an exact copy of Quantum Leap, then she woke up in the present. If she had gone on directly to other points in her life it would have been Quantum Leap with a quirky pretty redhead. The doctor is an intriguing fellow too. I love the way Erica just happens to run into him when she needs too. I also like that we got a glimpse of her list of problems that she want to resolve so that we know at least a few of the stories we can look forward to. Above all, I'm glad it's a full hour.

I kept seeing previews for this over the holidays, and then promptly forgot about it because I don't have cable at my apartment here. It did look potentially interesting.

Erica might be pretty, but her sister takes my breath away.

And that's probably why they cast her.

So that Erica can feel plain living in her sisters, the beautiful surgeon's, shadow.

If anyone's interested (and a stickler for legal means of distribution), iTunes is offering the pilot episode for free.

^Ooh, maybe I should download. I saw previews and thought about checking it out, but forgot about it a little bit on the night.

I enjoyed the episode as well, enough to tune in next week. When she was back in the '80s, it had a good soundtrack too. :D

The show has a really good intro. Love the music as well as the montage. Here's it is at the beginning of this clip.

I have another clip. First off, it's from the episode where she goes back and changes how she lost her virginity. She's doing the deed, then "leaps" back to the present, mid orgasm. It's a sex scene, but the clip isn't very graphic since it aired on network television. Consider yourself warned anyway. Too bad they didn't show the whole thing. Click here to see it.

^ The whole thing? You mean there's a more "graphic" version of the scene? Does CBC cut this series to hell for broadcast too?

I enjoyed this episode, and the series overall is fun and quirky. And Erica was looking pretty good in that bikini top and denim skirt back in the past. :D

Sorry, I meant that the YouTube clip didn't show the whole scene as it appeared on TV. It didn't show the build-up or the look on the guy's face.

I've been wanting to check this out since I first saw the commericals for it but haven't had time to. Erin Kalpluk is hot...saw her interview on Urban Rush here in Vancouver about a week ago promoting the show.

Yeah, the day change is pretty stupid IMO. I guess I'll have to time-shift and tape it later in the night. Wednesday is already packed with viewing.

The last episode with the bat mitsvah was good.

That seems really strange, since they set up Monday as their "wacky wackiness" show block.
What the heck are they pairing Being Erica with on Wednesday?
