Hello this is my first time posting in this section of the website,
I have been an avid Star Trek TNG fan for about two years now but only seen one episode of TOS (Trouble with Tribbles for that matter) and am looking to start watching it i don't want to have to buy dvd's though so links to youtube would be appreciated. Thanks

A simple search on youtube.com for "Star Trek" will give you a list of links for complete episodes (apparently, cbs.com has a YouTube channel) as well as other Star Trek related videos.

I know you didn't ask about specific episodes, but watching a bad episode of TOS before the good ones might ruin your appetite for more. I'm sure everyone has their own opinion but if I may recommend these:

1. Balance of Terror
2. Mirror Mirror
3. The City on the Edge of Forever
4. Amok Time
5. The Menagerie (2 parts)
6. Journey to Babel

A lot of the episodes tend towards quasi-philosophical speeches about human nature, those are the only real stinkers that I've noticed so far. Aside from that, pretty much every TOS episode is pretty entertaining, the famous ones like "Arena" and "Amok Time" for good reason.

The Cage
Where No Man has Gone Before
The Corbomite Maneuver
Balance of Terror
The City on the Edge of Forever
The Menagerie
The Doomsday Machine
Mirror,Mirror
The Trouble With Tribbles
The Ultimate Computer
The Enterprise Incident
Is There in Truth No Beauty
The Tholian Web

all are available on DVD, Blu-Ray and Star Trek.com/CBS.com

If you start to watch one and the words "Star Trek" appear in blue letters during the credits, skip it and look for one with gold credits.

While the third season get an undue amount of crap thrown its way, it probably is best to hold off on those until you've got the first two seasons under your belt.

Hi there and welcome to Trek BBS I was like u myself got into TNG then it was the sky,s limit.

TOS is now my favourite of all the trek franchises it's a series once u get hooked your hooked for ever. The TOS only lasted three seasons but I'm still finding stuff out now that I did not know it's a great series and u will enjoy so much I've watched all three seasons again and again and I'm still not bored of it.

I would get the blu rays of TOS with it's remasted CGI I'm not saying the old effects are bad but u will see the difference. ?

Good luck and enjoy TOS !!!

Agreed--definitely stick with seasons 1&2 first. Season 3 has some good ones but some real losers and most mediocre. They each have merits in their own right, though... like uncommon devices, aliens, or situations. And some are just pure tongue-in-cheek like "Plato's Stepchildren".

Remember... this isn't going to be what you're used to in TNG. There's not a lot of spit and polish, nor high tech special effects. You must keep in mind that this was a bleeding edge show for in the mid to later 1960's. What you may end up discovering is the chemistry between the main characters (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty), which is really what made the show aside from the ground breaking foundation of the Star Trek universe.

Start at the beginning and work you way through in order. Check with your library and see if they have the DVD's available. Take the good with the bad.

And don't be surprised that the title says "Star Trek" and not "Star Trek: The Original Series".

Robert
