Beeb's Outcasts coming soon

ha ha, well that settles it then! This is the same Neeson who said Aslan represented all faiths not just Christianity as well isn't it? ;)

I saw The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe for the first time last week. Having heard ad nauseam about the christian subtext, I completely failed to see it, unless it was someone being resurrected, in which case every zombie and vampire movie ever made must be christian allegory, along with most of Stargate (loving it, btw) and Pinocchio.

I thought it was much more apparent in the recent Dawn Treader one. But yeah, I failed to see it in the first one.
Oh you cracked open your Stargate Boxset then? Where you up to with it?

Just started season two (because it was a cliffhanger). Even Mister Supercilious is secretly enjoying it.

Good news. You should really enjoy the next oh 6 or so seasons. Personally I enjoyed all the way up to Atlantis season 4 but I know a lot of people don't. I even mildly enjoy SGU.

I didn't think I would enjoy it so much. It's quite refreshing to discover something good long after everyone else has forgotten it. I got the whole set of Sopranos for my daughter's OH for his crimbo. I might borrow it, after managing to avoid it (like SG-1) for a whole decade.

Never could get in to Sopranos, nor The Wire, but I intend to give both of them a second chance at some point. Almost bought the complete set of The Wire on a whim the other day but spent too much on the Steam christmas sale.

I thought that The Wire was alright, but not as great as most make out. I love slow-burn stories, and I love well-written characters, but I just couldn't warm to The Wire at all. Thought it was ok, and glad I watched it, but I'm not compelled to go back and watch it again afterwards though.

Same is true of The Sopranos and Deadwood.

Just as a matter of interest, would you watch SG-1 again?

Me? I have done a few times. There are some advantages as there are storylines I forgot about over the years, the disadvantage is of course you spot the reuses of plot and the 20 or so Canadian actors in existence.

Interstellar colonization in 2040? That's a typo, right?

I think something happens to the Earth so it's probably a completely worldwide effort to come up with a way to evacuate the planet, but that being said I don't even think with that we'd manage to get to an interstellar planet within 30 years (well 29 years now). Short of someone inventing wormhole/FTL technology in 10-15 years anyway.

Interesting name though. Carpathia immediately brings to mind the merchant ship that failed to notice the Titanic going down (albeit the captain was quite unjustly harried to his grave), followed a long way behind by a European mountain range.

I'm knocking something together in the woodshed right now.

Didn't your last attempt result in the EPA burning down half the block to contain the result? ;)

Are you named Cochrane, by any chance?

Not quite. That was the California. The Carpathia was the ship that did pick up the distress calls and was the first ship to make it to the area. Unfortunately they were too far away to get there before the ship went down but they picked up all the survivors, and an awful lot of the bodies. :(

If this is set in 2040 that's just terrible, the only way we'd have interstellar travel by then is if some kindly aliens came along and just gave it us!

Oh dear!
