Beam-In Matte Shot from "Kitumba"

Nice rendering, but too busy.
That will depend on the context. Remember it was not until DS9 that we got to see large multiship space battles. If this is part of a battle scene, it is going to be a doozy.

A little SFX teaser has been posted on YouTube:

Oh, NICE use of lens flare on the battlecruiser's impulse engines. Too often I see lens flares misused (JJ Abrams, I'm looking at you), but this really works beautifully here. Can't wait to see this with the sound mix!

I respectfully disagree. Any of the space scenes from the Star Wars prequels... now those were too busy. I felt like Lucas was just showing off at that point: Look at me! See how many things we have moving around in this scene! Puh. Lease.

We must agree to disagree. Multiple planets at ridiculously close distances+ships very close together.+cluttered composition = too busy. It's nicely rendered, though!

The ground shot is amazing; that said, I need to bring up the fact that the two Klingon D7 Battlecruisers are either in an EXREMELY low/close orbit, or they're friggin' HUGE. ;)

So, we have miles and miles to go before we release "Kitumba." In fact, we have to release "Enemy: Starfleet!" and "The Child" first. But we are nevertheless progressing on "Kitumba" and we thought we'd release a snippet. Yes, it's via the crappy YouTube delivery method and yes, the sound hasn't been done yet, and yes, there are camera shadows that need to be removed digitally. But this give you a taste of how the episode is shaping up. It gives you a peek at our Klingon Kostumes if nothing else.

Feedback is always welcome; checks even moreso.

It's hard to say much out of context but on the whole, this looks good. Though there's a slight continuity error -- during the first close-up on Chekov, the Klingon is clearly seen standing behind him, next to Kirk, but before he joins Kirk and McCoy at the center seat.

Music selection works well, but the dialogue audio needs work, especially for Xon.

The Klingon wardrobe looks awesome though and it's always nice to see the bridge in action.

Yes, the Klingon jumps from being next to Kirk's chair to being back at Spock's station, to being back at Kirk's chair again. We'll re-edit the shots and fix it. (There's a similar issue with DeSalle over at the Engineering station.)

Sound is always last. We'll clean up and equalize all the sound after we have the "final" edit of the episode. (We don't want to end up doing lots of sound work and ADR stuff on footage that's just going to be on the cutting room floor anyway.) We'll also end up scoring it a dozen different ways during our tests before we settle on the musical cues. Same with sound effects.

This is My EXTREMELY EARLY working cut. I thought it would be nice to share the process... The shot of Chekov is an audio marker only to be replaced by a shot of the viewscreen leaving only his audio.

As usual, the production value is wayyy up there. Looks great so far. I like that you are rotating the secondary characters in and out. This is something I thought was exciting about NV/P2 when I first heard about it.

James, Greg ... no worries! I love that you guys feel like you can share these early cuts with us; it's definitely nice to be "included" in the process, as it were. Keep up the great work!

Curious to see all of these productions I just wish they were more timely. Its really amazing the number of professionals they have working on this production now..quite a coup.

RAMA

RAMA, when you going to offer to take the drive up there and be on the show? You would make for a very intimidating... anything really.

I'm really looking forward to this one. It's actually the story together with that sight of the BOPs racing run past the Connie on their escort duty that sold me.
