BBC's "Survivors."

No, it's not a game show. I'm talking about the remake of the old Terry Nation series---a handful of survivors face what's to come after a deadly virus wipes out about 90% of the world's population in matter of mere days.

We've been watching it on BBCAmerica, only to find that huge pieces of the episodes have been edited out (and badly). Luckily, a friend in the UK had them, so we were able to see the complete unedited version. WOW. We just love this show; even my 12 year old nephew thought it was "way cool." In fact, we have to record and send him the next six episodes, since his town doesn't get BBC on their cable.

Paterson Joseph is THE MAN, so Greg is naturally my favorite character, but I also like the kid, Najid. He's actually a believable character instead of some "sickeningly cute smart-ass," the kind of child-character that seems a dime a dozen on American TV. Sarah is a fairly worthless human being, so I'm rather hoping she dies. Tom, while being seriously bad-ass, is also a tad on the evil side, so I don't really care what happens to him, but I am very interested to see how it turns out.

It's odd that I've become so emotionally attached to these characters; even hubby has become addicted. I've tried very hard to avoid spoilers but it's difficult--but I like how they've handled season/series 1; people died who you wouldn't expect, and people survive when you don't think they will.

Anyone else watching (or watched, since it's been out in the UK for--what--almost 2 years now)?

I am so digging this show. :techman:

Yeah, the second season finished up a few weeks ago. I don't know, I like the concept but I really didn't like how the first season ended up. They should have stuck with either the conspiracy stuff or following a band of survivors.

My understanding is that the two stories converge in the second season, but I'm not sure when I'll get to it.

And I have to throw in my obligatory "At least it ain't Bonekickers".

I heard of this show (the original) when I was getting into Blake's 7. I would like to watch it sometime.

(Is Youtube my friend?)

Interestingly, when Terry Nation left Blake's 7, the show had a different 'feel'...and became less interesting, IMO...

I never caught the end of S1 and have yet to watch S2. I quite liked it, so I'll catch up eventually. I have to be in the right mood for it, though.

And yes, Paterson is The Man. He always is.

:D

I'm going to have to catch this, since so many people here have given it good reports. I am an enormous fan of the original, so that's why I've been avoiding it. I will give it a go at some point.

^No confirmation of a third series yet. Seems Adrian Hodges is a little busy at the minute with series 4 and 5 of Primeval being commissioned so there may be a delay if there's going to be a third series.

I like the show but like ITL I have to be in the right mood to watch it or it just doesn't connect. I do like that they've diverged significantly from the original while keeping some similar ideas and plots in there, so it has a connection but has to stand on its own.

The show is OK but I think what keeps me from liking it more is that I like the other characters more than Abby who is the main character. Every time screen time is devoted to her and her quest I kind of lose interest in the show.

^ That's a good point. I'm more interested in the other characters than in Abby. I like her fine, but I wouldn't mind if the focus were a bit more evenly distributed.

Oh, I can. It makes perfect sense. If I was going to remake a show, I'd go with something a bit obscure that I could make relevant to today's audience.

I think the cult following of Blake's 7 is still strong enough that trying to redo it ala nuBSG would be pretty hard. I know I wouldn't want to see someone else play Avon. Doctor Who was easy to "redo" or rather "continue," since every regeneration is, in essence, a redo, of sorts.

A Blake's 7 remake was announced a few years back, supposedly starting off as 2 one off feature length episodes. Nothing has come of it so far, but who knows... I think James Swallow was supposed to be involved but I can't remember for sure now.

No, me either. But Sky are supposed to be making a big push on original content over the next few years, so I suppose it's a possibility.

I don't think Sky have said anything about the Blakes 7 remake since they announced it. Frankly I don't hold out much hope for it, and I'm not really sure I want to see it anyway.

Re Survivors. I quite liked the first season, but it was somewhat flawed. Season 2 was loads better and I really hope it gets a third season now. No spoilers but the way S2 ends you could end the story right there if you wanted to, but there's clearly room to continue.

Posting without reading other posts-still have a couple eps on DVR.
What did you mean, badly edited on BBCAMERICA? PM me, please, if you can Auntie, 'cause I want to know if its worth having my cousin use her Brit contacts to get uneditied versions...

^I thought it was. There are cuts in REALLY odd places, some small scenes get left out so the BBCA can cram in more commercials, not to mention all the damn in-picture adds that keep popping up.

I'll PM you.
