BBC Axe Robin Hood

[SNIP]
Just read the article, and they pulled a "Fox" on it? Moving it to another timeslot, it gets dismal ratings, so they can it? While I found the quality went down, it could at least have been canceled on it's own (de)merits instead of a low handed timeslot move.

Not really; it was in the same slot, but instead of running in September (which was taken over by the first run of Merlin) it's run from April to now, when Doctor Who would usually run.
But last Saturday there was an over-running sport event, a Wimbledon tennis match where a British player looked like winning, so the BBC shifted Robin Hood from the main channel BBC1 to the less mainstream BBC2. So the finale's ratings were low, but fairly OK for BBC2 at that time.
the ratings on BBC 2 were much better than I expected and not that much down on what it got the previous week on BBC 1

Really? I thought the BBC One ratings were better than 1.89m

Okay, so they just shifted it from one channel to another. I'm not British so I don't know how exactly it works there but it sounded like they just dumped it somewhere else to finish off the series like Fox does whenever it plots to kill something off.

Not really, what happened is it was on same channel, same time, for 12 of the 13 weeks. Big sports event over ran so they put it on their second channel so it still ran the last ep. Wasn't that they were dumping it, it was so they didn't have to postpone it, or move the tennis in the middle of a match.

they were, but that previous week it was not up against Wimbeldon, and hadn't been shafted last minute to a different channel.

My roommate is going to be pissed. That was one of his favorite shows. I thought it was pretty good too. The guy who played The Sheriff was great.

I hope somewhere down the line another network gives the Robin Hood legend a shot, but I agree this current iteration has run it's course.

It was a good show, though, better than 99% of the crap on American TV nowadays.

Well it at least doesn't end on a cliffhanger, and it is kinda a natural stopping point.

I watched the first episode with my mom's partner and she walked out of the living room after the first twenty minutes. I stopped it after the first episode and returned the DVD to the library lol.

I know it's not too popular round these parts, but there's a few who enjoy it, but the BBC announced this morning that they've decided to axe Robin Hood.

I won't post the article because it contains a spoiler at the bottom of it, for those watching in other countries.

I think it's a shame, because they apparently had a new showrunner ready to take over series 4 and give it a fresh coat of paint, but because of low ratings they decided to axe it. I would have liked to see what she had in mind, but oh well.

weird. i thought i heard before series 3 began that it would be over by then because the actor playing robin is leaving the show. guess that wasn't official. >_<

now the primeval cancellation was the surprise to me, though after they started getting rid of the cutters, i guess that kind of signaled the end of it. one cutter out of the picture, was shocking enough, but two? hmmm... also, nick cutter always seemed pissed in the third series. he didn't look or act like he did in one and two. it's like he didn't want to be there.

No, they planned to continue despite the fact he was leaving. They signed up Tuck, and Kate for 2 years.

I saw the finale last night. They made sure the series ended on what I guess you could call a high note. And a permanant one unless they went the route of the half-brother playing Robin.
