Spoilers Batwoman - Season 1

That is good example of going too far mid story. Helps me be more specific of what I mean - Kate’s disappearance and absence would already have already happened. We and other characters would be introduced to new Batwoman at same time though.

this would allow flashbacks if Ruby Rose ever returns for guest appearances.
No I got ya, I was just running with the idea.

When Ruby was first announced leaving Viper was mentioned as a show in which the Lead character was replaced. I had vague memory that same lead returned fully for final season. Researching that I learned for the second season only one supporting character remained and the previous lead was mentioned at all. It was practically a new show. BUT in final season the original lead returned and THAN was given an explanation of what happened to him. After 2 full seasons of no mention of him at all.

I am sure there are somewhat similar examples. TV Tropes probably has a specific category. If writers want the audience not to think of departed characters they are never mentioned again. But it’s fiction, they can spontaneously turn up again with no foreshadowing at all.

Kate Kane is too important for many different reasons to pull that. They are going to have to acknowledge her absence and perhaps hint at her whereabouts. Similar to Bruce Wayne on this show with more detail. With more need to actually return at some point too.

They will likely just kill Kate Kane. Put a extra in the suit and have her be killed in away that doesn't leave a body behind like a explosion. This way it kills both the character but also the suit thus giving them a excuse to create a new suit for the new character. One who will likely be less powerful since were talking about a character who can't be trusted it seems at least at first. Personally I think they should just dump the Batcave as well. If they want to do more of a streetfighter level Batwoman then dump the fancy gadgets and go more low tech. I assume her van will replace the motorcycle in terms of vehicle so if they want to sort of rig it up as a kind of low tech Batmobile that might be fun.

I think they should bring Robin or Nightwing back as well in order to train her. I assume she will need some sort of training but you don't got any teachers to do it. Keep him around for like 3 or 4 episodes and then she is ready.

It effectively was a new show. The original NBC show was cancelled after 13 episodes. It was off the air for more than two years before it was brought back in syndication with a mostly new cast and crew. The syndie version is more a sequel or revival than a direct continuation. So I don't think it really fits this pattern.

There was talk early on that Kate would be killed off screen (which I don't think would really sit well) but there's already a way out. She retreated from the bat after killing mouse's father and if something similar happened again she would need to go walkabout.

The series opened with Kate on an isolated spiritual journey for who knows how long so I don't see they need to kill her off or even fully explain her absence. She's missing, just like Batman has been missing and I don't know if the series would want to be lumped into the "bury your gays" trope.

Actually there is one more example of a show where a lead was replaced and the show retooled after the first season:

"Gene Roddenberry's Earth Final Conflict"

She's missing in Season 2, not dead. At least that's what the production has said. Her missing will be one of the plots of the season.

That will get old fast if they don't ever plan to bring the actress back. Each week will be "Is Kate about to return" but of course not. Ruby Rose isn't in the guest star credits. Should just kill her instead of keeping the limping memories of season 1 around and not allowing the characters to move on in this new direction.

Yes, Kate Kane is too important--she's is the center of that show's universe, and the supporting characters do not have a reason to exist without events connected to and/or directly influenced by her. This show will have unimaginably high hurdles to overcome to make that world ever come close to working again. This is a far worse situation than TV series of the past where leads were replaced by a new actor and character, such as Route 66, or Alias Smith and Jones--both not being so tied to the actions and lives of a single character. In other words, the heart of the show.

The names on casting sheets usually are when it comes to the Arrowverse.

No.

Caroline Dries, motivated by a suggestion from Greg Berlanti, created a brand-new, completely original character - Ryan Wilder - to replace Kate Kane as Batwoman.

There is zero 'subterfuge' at play here with regards to Javica Leslie's role.
