Spoilers Batwoman - Season 1

Sure, but I'd still prefer someone who's reasonably similar to her in appearance and personal presence and manner, just because I found her so striking to watch. Less like replacing William Hartnell with Patrick Troughton and more like replacing Leonard Nimoy with Zachary Quinto or Ethan Peck.

Although I generally agree, I never thought Michael Gambon was much of a dead ringer for Richard Harris in the Potter movies and he worked out fine.

Oh, and IIRC, they never bothered to "explain" Dumbledore's new appearance in the third movie and that worked.

Back when they were kids, Kate "dies" in the car-crash, and Beth lives her life to eventually become Batwoman.

They did this with the Witchblade tv show. Witchblade went back in time a year, and had a do-over against the same villains again for season 2. At least it's what I think happened, becuase I didn't watch season 2.

Sounds like something they ripped off from Dallas.

It worked for me because I had no strong feelings about Richard Harris. But I really, really liked Ruby Rose in the role, so I don't want too great a departure from what she brought to it.

Peyton E. List is really the best option the producers could find for seamlessly replacing Ruby: same age, similar physical appearance, experience with grueling shooting schedules, familiarity with Berlanti Productions, and "name" value. The only unknown value with her, at least publicly, is her sexual orientation, but that is also the case with two of the actresses who've publicly expressed interest in the role, Wallis Day and Jade Tailor.

Maybe instead of finding someone willing to put up with "grueling schedules" we make the schedules less grueling instead?

They can't.

It takes on average 8-10 days to film a single episode of one of the Arrowverse series, and that is with cameras rolling for something like 14 hours straight.

What’s the matter with you? You think these artsy actor types are doing real work? Sitting around sipping lattes and checking social media until the next bit of “work” for 35 seconds reciting a few lines? Then off to the trailer for some coke or meth? “Gruelling schedules”. Pfft. Let them try real work. :scream:

;)

There is one constant in the industry as many actors tend to cite, over the decades (and newer technology has not necessarily made things easier): TV show making is grueling, with 12+ hour days not being terribly uncommon, with the need for retakes, different angles, script changes, if another actor comes in late or is sick, and so on.

But with 10 story seasons, and there's still plenty of filler in these shorter seasons, I'd guess they could change things? How do they do things in show production? Is it really so simple as to say "we make the schedules less grueling instead" as if it's no different to buying a flavor of jello?

Sounds good on paper and in principle, but a lot of viewers already perceive a problem on these shows of too little focus on what are supposed to be the lead characters. It's a particularly common complaint about Supergirl, whose sprawling supporting cast sometimes makes Kara seem like a guest on her own series. I suspect that's done at least partly to take some pressure off Benoist, but it's an imperfect solution at best.

I suspect, besides financial considerations, many “prestige TV” series have 8-13 episodes in part to decrease the “gruel” for the bigger stars who might otherwise balk at appearing.

Katy O’Brian has expressed interest on Twitter. https://mobile.twitter.com/thekatyo/status/1263283758192418816?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1263283758192418816&ref_url=https://publish.twitter.com/?query=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2Fthekatyo%2Fstatus%2F1263283758192418816&widget=Tweet

She fits the role and qualifications more than anyone. Arguably more than Ruby Rose. Except on name recognition. She has already appeared in the Arrowverse in an extended role on Black Lightning. She is an expert in martial arts. Also is a Lesbian.

I would not be surprised if this is who they choose.
Her Twitter post is hilarious.

She was pretty good on Z Nation on Syfy . Her voice is a little different from Ruby but there's a decent resemblance physically and she does have the action chops and physicality. The more I think about it the more I like the idea.

Not more than Peyton E. List.
I am a huge fan of her. Been so since she was on Mad Men. If she is not a lesbian they are not going to cast her. Admittedly very little is known about her personal life. If she is not comfortable being out publicly hard to say she would change her mind to take this role. All is hypothetical. She could be straight and private outside her work.

Plus Katy is a Martial Artist. The physicality to the role would not be an adjustment at all.

Peyton has everything the producers are rumored to be targeting - "name" recognition, previous CW credentials, physical similarity to Ruby, ability to cope with grueling shooting schedules - for the new Kate other than it being known publicly if she's a member of the LGBTQ community.

I would, as noted, like to see non-binary actor Bex Taylor-Klaus in the role even though she's both really young and really short in comparison to Ruby, but Peyton really would be the most seamless choice if the producers are indeed taking into account the things that they're rumored to be considering as qualifications for the new Kate.

I have to catch up on Black Lightning, so I am not sure if I have seen her in anything yet. Just from pictures and resume she looks perfect. Even has the hair cut. Just needs to change the color. It would be seemless.

Whomever they pick, they should not acknowledge the recasting at all. With the production delays and January premieres - not clear how long time with pass story wise between seasons. As long as Batwoman does not immediately pickup were it ended, new scene new actress. It’s been done before.
