Battlestar Galactica getting rebooted (again) for NBS's streaming service

+1?
latest

uhmm... I will call this series...
BattleCar Galactica 1980!

Just because there is a car in Knightrider doesn't make it BattleCar Galacticar.
I don't recall an episode of Knightrider where Gaius BalCar and Startruck have a race against the cylons to get to the garage at the end of the universe.
Fine then: BattleBikes Galactica:

Bumping the thread with confirmation that this new BSG will be a return to the "nuBSG" continuity developed by RDM and David Eick.

It's probably too much to hope that this news will get people to stop misusing the term "reboot", but a confirmed return to the same continuity as the RDM/Eick series and its spinoffs is still welcome news.

Any news on when it takes place? I'm not sure what other periods of its timeline can be interestingly expanded unless it takes place in present day Earth. If they try to put it on Caprica, or Kobol, or other Earth, we're just seeing another point in the known cycle.

All we know right now is that the series isn't a reboot (courtesy of Sam Esmail and his personal Twitter account) and is going to be explicitly set in the "nuBSG" universe (courtesy of RDM and that article I linked to).

I wanna make sure I understand the term so as not to upset @DigificWriter . nuBSG was a reboot, right? Same concept redone with (probably) no connection to the 1978 series.

And if nunuBSG isn't one, then it would have to tell the story of a different group of people, possibly in a different time period than what we saw from 2004-2009. Technically Caprica fits this mold, same continuity, different time.

A reboot is a complete, from-scratch restart of a given property.

RDM and David Eick's BSG took the BSG franchise and both restarted and reimagined its continuity and mythology, which led to four short-lived spinoffs: the Razor, The Plan, and Blood and Chrome TV movies and the Caprica TV series.

This new BSG series would appear to be, based on what we know, a new addition to the RDM/Eick BSG franchise, and therefore would not be a reboot despite a lot of people referring to it as such.

Whether it's a retelling of the familiar BSG "exodus" story with brand-new characters or something completely different that hinges itself on the mythology and lore that RDM and Eick developed remains to be seen.

Blood & Chrome and some of Razor gave us Adventures Of Young Adama. Could be a lot more to cover, but I'm not sure they'd go there again.

RDM says that Sam Esmail told him that he wasn't doing a recast, so I don't think we'll see familiar characters unless the series can get people to come back.

I'm hoping they don't.

Not because of having anything against the characters, I just hope they take the "all of this has happened before" thing seriously. This new version could take place at literally any time. Hell, it could even come before Kobol, or after TOS.

For all we know, there may be nothing at all actually linking this new show to nuBSG, other than the word of the people making it. Although they may drop in hints from time to time.

Throughout time whenever some crack pot thought they saw an angel and a miracle... It's been a Cylon Centurion pushing whacky shit back on the rails.

Joey Smith and the Mormon Church. ;)

Bringing back characters could tie into the "All of this has happened before" thing if those characters were Starbuck, "Head!Baltar", or "Head!Six".

Otherwise, I don't think we see familiar characters.

I'm also not sure we'll even get the "exodus" story again.

I loved nuBSG, but, seriously, they tried several spin-offs and no one went well. So, what is it different this time?
