In nuBSG continuity, the original series theme is the Colonial Anthem.
I always thought that was a nice touch, especially in the episode that introduced D'anna Biers (as an aside...Lucy Lawless looked good as a blonde.

). But yes, the original theme of '78 becoming the Colonial Anthem... very nice touch, and a nice nod to the original series.
What was so cool was (IIRC) that instead of just brute forcing the theme, Bear MacCreary actually reached out to Stu Phillips (original composer) and asked for the original score for the main theme of the classic show, and if I heard correctly, Phillips was very happy to oblige. MacCreary put just enough of his own touch on it, but still kept quite faithful to the original theme.
As another aside, I remember hearing that John Williams was so impressed with Stu Phillips' main theme (after initially wondering if it was going to sound too much like Star Wars' main theme), that John Williams conducted Stu Phillips' theme at some event. (I can't remember which.)
For all the vitriol that one sometimes hears of from those who decry the classic show as nothing more than a Star Wars rip off for television, it sure is nice to hear about the
pros behind the scenes who actually appreciate each others' works.
I still think the greatest appreciation (where one film/show is similar to another) was hearing about how Akira Kurasawa (Seven Samurai) appreciated The Magnificent Seven so much that he sent a personal letter (and I believe, a Samurai sword) to the director of The Magnificent Seven.
The true class is among the pros.
