Battleship: The Movie!

There was an old Harvard Lampoon Newsweek parody which had a review of "Pac-Man the Movie"... IIRC the reviewer marvelled at the special effects of the hero zooming though endless corridors but decried the lack of characterization and plot.

I know it isn't really on topic but has anyone seen the clips of the upcoming King of Fighters movie?

Seriously, what is so difficult about adapting video games that they have to totally ignore what plot there is and/or ignore what made the game popular in the first place. It's a bad state of affairs when a game company can do a much better job on their own.

At least with Battleship: The Movie, there's very little they need to remember apart from the battleships.

slightly off topic, but I was looking a christmas catalogue today and on the same page as Bob the Builder & a similar US show, was a toy digger from JCB with a face.

If Battleship can make a movie, how long till JCB are make one, it appears they are already making the merchandise.

I could see battleship being made into and interesting movie, going in a couple different directions. I think it could go the "gamer" route where the game being played is real. It could go the tron route where the game played on the outside is seen from the perspective of the "programs". It could go the route of "the future of naval combat" presenting a naval battle on the high seas from the perspective of the individual fleet commanders...

It has the potential to actually be something good, but hollywood will no doubt screw it up like everything else it does.

If Battleship is made into a film you know there is gonna be at least one smartass in the audience in every screening who is going to yell out "YOU SANK MY BATTLESHIP!" :guffaw:

A new Dune movie? Will this one be interesting to watch? The other always put me to sleep.

Peter Berg's Dune has been in "pre-production" for so long now I'm starting to give up on it. Honstly, it's been two years since the initial rumours and there's still been no work done on it.

Hungry Hungry Hippos! ''Were hungry...for JUSTICE!:guffaw:Anybody else remember that episode from robot chicken?

Yeah, this Battleship news reminded me of that, too.

Re: Battleship: The Movie! casting

Victoria’s Secret and Sports Illustrated model Brooklyn Decker will star in Battleship, a sci-fi action movie based on the popular Hasbro boardgame.
Directed by Peter Berg (Hancock), Battleship sees Earth invaded by an alien naval fleet in search of an as yet unknown entity. The world’s navies are forced to band together to ward off the invaders in a battle that takes place over land, sea and sky.

Will it be a good film or just a star vehicle for Rihanna?

Decker has been cast in the role of “Sam” opposite Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood). Battleship will also mark the feature film debut of singer Rihanna.

What's worse is that it's likely to be in the actual movie dialog at least once. :barf:

Well yeah! There's kinda no point in doing the movie otherwise!

Still, reminds me of my experience at an opening night showing of Iron Man where, every time Iron Man did anything in the film, this guy would shout out, "Yeah! Iron MAN!" When it looked like Col. Rhodes might put on the armor, he gleefully screamed "War Machine!" Then, when they finally used the acronym SHIELD for the 1st time, he went totally nuts, waving his arms above his head and running out of the theater in a euphoric haze. (It's a good thing he didn't stick around for the post-credits Nick Fury cameo. I don't think his overexcited heart could take it.) As we filed out of the theater, we saw him sitting on the edge of a garbage can saying, "Anyone think I was an asshole, push me in." (Tempting, but I wasn't in the mood to provoke a fight with a crazy person when I had to work an early shift the next morning.)

They're making it into a science fiction property? Has Battleship changed that much in the past ten years? I thought we'd get a movie with, you know, naval battles?
