Battleship gets a positive review

I don't go to theatres any more
Too many badly dressed people, eh? :(

Add in overweight, noisy, and with young children, and you just about have it. :p :D

Truth is, I just enjoy watching movies more at home. That, and if I get bored, I can just change channels and I'm not even out any money.

The main thing for me is the facilities are simply better at home - the wine is at the right temperature, the film stops when I need a wee and I don't have to worry about the behaviour of other patrons.

I rarely go to theaters anymore either. I have nice large screen TV and good sound system so I usually wait until the DVD.

The only exceptions I know I will make will be the next Star Trek movie, Superman movie, and Godzilla movie that is in production right now.

I feel pretty much the same, although my setup probably isn't all that amazing. I don't think I've been to the theater in well over a year for much the same reasons. Plus there are no damn commericals or twenty minutes of mostly awful film trailers.

The fact that I can rarely find someone to go with, and that my butt tends to go numb if I sit in the same position for more than an hour doesn't help either.

Reminds me of Battle: Los Angeles, but at sea and without Aaron Eckhart.

Coming soon Stratego Starring Sean Bean and Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Axis and Allies starring Bruno Ganz and Rod Taylor

Might be fun... and I avoid the crowd-behavior problem by going to late-night weekday shows when possible. Makes it easy to get good seats, too.

In fact the only negative thought I had when I walked away at the end was that Rihanna can not act in the slightest.

And you were surprised by that how? :rommie:
I can only imagine the producers/director thinking, we need to up the accessibility of this film, so let's introduce a rather pedestrian pop singer who can't act to this already shite film and see where it takes us.

here

So now I'm kinda interested.. especially the scene where, essentially, a version of the board game (of sorts) is played. It sounds like fun.. it's not trying to be a film.. but a popcorn movie.

Anyone want to give this a look?

I can't be made to care. The level of apathy that I feel when I see the preview almost depresses me.

Hmm, just looked on IMDb, this isn't out in America till 18 May, no wonder no one's talking about it.
Came out in the UK last Wednesday, and I just saw it this afternoon.

Pardon my language, but fuck yeah, that was a lot of fun!

I suppose you could say (as someone did above) that there's a bit of Battle: LA at sea vibe to it, but I defnitely found it superior to that movie, and a million times better than the awful Bay Transformers movies.

Anyone going expecting to get Citizen Kane really shouldn't bother going, but it is a great action flick, definitely one to be seen on the big screen and sound.

In one awesome montage AC/DC's Thunderstruck plays, so yeah I loved it :D
(and because as a Supernatural fan it always makes me think of this)

Everything you have said just convinces me that I will love this movie. I am expecting a fun special effects loaded mindless movie.

As for Rihanna, I never had a problem with her. I mean her part wouldn't have got her nominated for a Best Supporting Actress no matter who played her, but yeah I never thought she was "bad" tbh

Taylor Kitsch's ladyfriend character is basically a pair of tits to look at however, but I guess that's to be expected in a popcorn movie like this

No, but there is a variation of it

I saw it last night and thought it was awesome. Great action, some very funny moments and lines and some hot people. Very good spectacle.

In particular...

I loved the bit where the approach the Missouri, it just cracks me up to think that the veterans were sitting on the boat the whole time just mooching around twiddling their thumbs then suddenly all these navy people come aboard and the vets were almost like they'd been waiting for them.

Actually its not that far fetched. Mo is technically a museum ship, but had basically preserved as a CAT B reserve asset as part of the donation contract. The vets would be waiting for someone to come aboard and get that ship in the fight.

i had a crazy ass dream last night where i was watching, and then IN, a cross between this and The Avengers. mad-ass thing with armour-plated aliens on warships, Rhianna, Liam Neeson, Cap America, Widow, Thor and Iron Man fighting...

Just something else which I forgot to write earlier.

I was a little bit confused by their motivations, because they seemed to not really care about humans individually, but they were quite happy to send those spinny things to attack a road and kill loads of people.

But they did remind me of how the Borg initially appeared, mostly interested in technology and the humans were more of an annoyance if anything.

So is there hope for Ouija: The Movie? :D (Seriously, I'd like to see that.)

Battleship is on a BO rampage overseas. So much for the silly Hollywood notion that foreigners don't want rah rah American patriotic stuff. They don't care, they just want mindless entertainment. So next time, Hollywood, leave Captain America in the title!

Battleship's a rental for me, but that's a notch up from what I'd assumed it would be: AVOID.
