Battlefield 1943 out!

Well, I spent one whole game on the Guadalcanal map messing about with planes. I have now switched from flying in the "behind the plane" camera to a first person POV camera. Man once you get the hand of it, it is all sorts of awesome. I took six or so other planes down in one single game and I think I only crashed once. ;) So yeah, I am seriously looking forward to Coral Sea, it should be epic. :D

360 unlocked it! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAS

IN YOUR FUCKING FACE SONYFAG FAILBOTS*

Crap, I'm sorry, I just came over all fanboy. :P

Well I just had my best game so far. I got over 400 points including 11 kills and about 7 or 8 captures flags. :D Man I love Wake Island.

Downloaded this today. Pretty fun, though I've struggled with the control scheme a bit. I've managed to relive some of my Battlefield 2 days of dumping satchels on tanks. Kind of a weird combo, the Sniper/Demolitions, it's cool that you can shoot pretty much clear across the map and score kills.

I've messed with the vehicles a bit, but I'm terrible with them, especially planes. I don't get the dogfights in this game, but I do like trying to drop bombs on stuff. Sadly I haven't actually killed anyone with them though.

All in all, I've probably already gotten 15 dollars worth of entertainment from it, and I've also probably played it more than I played Battlefield 2142 altogether (and to think, I thought I was getting an awesome deal on that when I picked it up on sale for like 30 bucks right after it came out).

Air superiority is awesome, I love it :D Just wish it was the European theater and it was Spitfires vs Messercshmitts.

I was out of town for a few days but got back to playing this last night. I really like the game but I'm afraid I'm going to have to give it up as my level of suckage seems to know no bounds. And in a team based game, I hate to hurt the team because of my ineptitude.

:(

7 million to go. With roughly 5 million kills per day on the PS3, Coral Sea should be unlocked tomorrow. ;)

Oh yeah, believe it or not I was actually the best on my team earlier today. I guess that's why we lost, 'cause almost everyone else sucked (and even I'm not all that great). ;)

Never give up, never surrender!:klingon:

Well believe me, I like to play. But it's not really fair to my teammates. And I'm reminded of what Harry Callahan once said: "A man's got to know his limitations." And I guess after years of trying to blame lag, controller issues, etc, I've just got to face facts that I'm not getting any younger and my relexes and eye-hand coordination issues are only going to get worse.

I'll probably keep playing but I think I see the end of my online playing days in the not too distant future. I rather suspect that COD:MW2 will be my last online hurrah.

^ I'm curious, how many points do you usually get per game?

I only played a couple of games last night and I think I probably had less 100 points each. Seems like most of my points come from capturing flags or sometimes defending flags. I don't get too many kills. I haven't played very many games yet, but I don't know if I've ever gotten over 100 points in a game.

EDIT TO ADD: Ok, I stand corrected, I've played 6 games (seems like a LOT more ???) and my score is 667, so I guess I am getting over 100 points on average (at least through 6 games).

I have a little luck on the anti-aircraft guns but unless planes are in your vicinity that can be kind of boring and you're kind of vulnerable while doing that.

One of the things that I miss is the killcam. Not because I want to go back and get the guy got me, I just want to know what happened. In a lot of my deaths, have no clue who got me or how. I don't know if I'm getting sniped or if I'm just looking past people right in front of me.

I've thought about just camping around a flag and trying to find a good defensive position, but that be a bit boring too.

BTW, does anybody know what the benefits of gaining rank is? I don't see any kind of perk options like in COD, so is this just symbolic or is it useful for something?

^ Yeah, to my knowledge rank only gives you bragging rights. ;)

And over 100 points per game actually isn't bad. There are quite a few people every game that get less then 50 points.

Anyway, a couple of pieces of advice:
- Use the rifleman class. Infantry's SMG is totally useless. OTOH the rifleman rifle is pretty sweet.
- Use tanks whenever possible. Make sure to always use both tank weapons when trying to kill enemy soldiers. The main gun takes a while to load, so use the secondary weapon while the main gun is loading.
- Planes are awesome for quickly getting to a flag quickly. Take off, fly over the flag (watch the map), then bail out (O button on PS3) and hit X a couple of times to open your parachute. Assess the situation from the air before landing.
- Use the cover as much as possible. If you're in a tank hide behind buildings, especially if you're facing another tank
- Having someone man your tank turret is quite useful, so if you're near an ally, wait and see if they wanna climb in
- When in a tank (or jeep) use the external view when driving, then quickly switch to the internal view (use UP on the D-pad) to aim when you need to kill something.

That's about all I can think of for now. It's getting kinda late so my brain isn't working as well as it should be, haha. :D

Thanks. I did switch to the rifle last night but I didn't seem to improve. I just need to give it more time I guess. I haven't tried a tank yet so I guess I need to give that a try.

The biggest problem I have is struggling to hit stuff, I just can't seem to aim for shit. It's really frustrating.

No problem. ;) I hope some of it helps.

About the rifleman... at first the class feels underpowered, but the rifle is actually more useful then the infantry's SMG. You often empty a full mag into an opponent with the SMG and they're still not dead. OTOH, with the rifle a couple of well placed rounds do the trick.

And yeah, you've gotta try the tank. One, it's much harder to die, and two, you've more powerful. OTOH, you get spotted much faster and most people just love to take out a tank. ;)

And yeah, I have problems aiming as well, but I'm slowly improving. Use crouch (R3) to aim and also use the "zoom" feature (L1) whenever possible.

Exactly how many maps did they include in this?
Originally three: Iwo Jima, Wake Island, and Guadalcanal. There's also a fourth map which is fighter planes only called Coral Sea. It's already been released on the 360 and should be out on the PS3 within a day.

Huh? When I empty a clip into a guy with the SMG they are deader than dead. If anything I prefer the Sniper, you can hit people from across the map, and if you get in close frankly the pistol is good enough to where if you get the drop on someone, or are just generally accurate at close range you'll take them out in under a clip. And dynamite has so many possibilities.

^ I don't know, I just really feel the SMG is underpowered. Based on same of the stuff I've read on internet forums, quite a few people agree with me. But hey, if it works for you, good for you.

And yeah, I quite like the sniper class. Dynamite is great, but I'm not really a fan of the pistol.

So I just played three rounds of Air Superiority and I gotta say it's a lot of fun. I just need to improve my aim. ;) Otherwise I'm pretty good at it.
