"Not important"? Tell that to Lwaxana. If nothing else, considering the fact that Lwaxana was portrayed by Majel Barrett, I think that some kind of follow up was needed. I've really regretted the fact that this ("this" being the retaking of Betazed, not necessarily this particular novel, since it was written after Insurrection was produced) wasn't the plot of the ninth movie. I mean, as we see in the novel, there's a very easy planet-based A plot/ship-based B plot structure to go with here, plus the fact that it naturally includes Worf and even lets characters other than Picard and Data to get the spotlight, so they're not paying the other actors to just stand around and deliver damage report dialogue.
