Grade the movie...

Friday was a holiday without a lot to do around it. Sunday was a holiday where most people have other engagements.
This is why I'm so curious about Monday.

The only other huge Hollywood movie that came out on "Good Friday" (that I can think of) was Furious 7, and that one made 14 million on its first Monday. It'll be interesting to observe how BvS does against it. So far it's ahead by 20 million.

After being confused by what was happening I remembered those tile-bots from MoS. The Kryptonian computer is giving Lex the information he wanted, it seems.

I've seen the movie twice already and I liked it more the second time. Probably because I knew what I was going in for, but I'll stick with my "B" grade.

I'll freely admit that this movie has flaws but honestly I think DC gets held to a waaaayyyy higher standard than Marvel movies. Think about it. How many Marvel characters can some average Joe name? Not us nerds on a SciFi board but everyday people? The Superman "S" alone is one of the most recognizable symbols on the planet and even the most casual fan will probably know something about him. Batman has had a huge run of success across various forms of media. So it's not unrealistic for people to hold these iconic characters up to a higher standard than Marvel. Truthfully, did anyone really know much about Iron Man before his movie?

I also see that this is the new movie to hate among the YouTube critic types. Stuckmann, Jahns, Linday Ellis, even Bandit Inc. are all deciding to hate on it and that's fine. I'm not going to say it's a perfect movie. But I wish that people would be consistent in their hate. A lot of the pacing/editing problems have shown up in some Marvel movies and several Marvel villains were either downright stupid (Mandarin) or over-the-top (Bad guy in Ant-man). I'm not trying to make this a Marvel vs. DC thing but I can't help but watch Age of Ultron and BvS in the span of a week and wonder why the Marvel schlock didn't get a 30% RT rating? It was terrible!

I agree that critics have been over zealous in their hate of this movie, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a stinker of a film. It's bad.

The movie is dumb, but takes itself seriously. Sitting through the whole thing feels like a chore.

I mean, I get that it's important that the character finally appeared on screen, just questioning what seems like gushing over what was a very minor role. Things to the effect of the movie getting a B-, but wonder woman's contribution brought it up to A-.

As Diana, she looked great in a dress, no question. And she had a couple fun/flirty/spy vs. spy moments with Bruce, but that was kinda the entire role. Wasn't counting, but if I said she had 10 lines of dialog, you'd have to admit I was in the ballpark, no?

As Wonder Woman, I honestly can't remember if she actually spoke a single word. Anyone remember? I think she just stood in front of the wind machine to get perfect flowing hair, and screamed when she jumped at Doomsday.

I'm glad she was in the movie, and definitely good that she's getting her own movie. And that it's ahead of the JL mashup. Just feel it's more than a stretch to say her role in any way saved the movie, or even elevated it much. She had an extended cameo, really. I LIKED what she brought as Diana, just wish there was more of it.

Aquaman had as many lines as Wonder Woman, and within 2 minutes of the same screen time. ;)
WW said something like "I've killed things from other worlds before", among other things. And the truth is, Gal Gadot just shined. She was a beacon of light in an overly dour movie, and frankly her small part (though bigger than you're letting on) is what kept the movie from crashing under it's own weight.

I enjoyed it. It could have had better pacing early on and it was unnecessary to drag out so many flashback dream sequences but overall it was enjoyable. They did a good job of making Superman conflicted (I generally find him rather dull and overpowered).

I must admit though, tenuous though her motivation was (doesn't she know photos can be uploaded to the cloud?), I found myself wishing the camera had ditched the lads and stayed with Gal Gadot for the rest of the movie. I'm sure they were nervous about showcasing Wonder Woman in a solo outing but they did a very effective job of whetting my appetite. I can't wait to see more of her.

Everybody's talking about how it's just "the critics" who hate the film, but some of the most scathing condemnations I've seen have come from comics professionals and insiders, including people who've actually written or edited stories about the DC characters and universe. So people who have a lot of investment in Superman, Batman, and their world tend to feel that the movie got them very wrong.

...every time Senator Finch opened her mouth I thought "why not just cast Jody Foster?" if she's going to try and sound like her that much.

I thought during the entire movie that Eisenberg was Lex Luther's son, not Lex himself - but then I read IMDB and the character's name is "Lex Luthor". I guess I've never heard Lex refer to his father before. They certainly did that a bunch in this film.

I was against the casting of Gal Gadot but I think she did fine. I still think Gina Carano would have been more "amazon" and fit the role better. I wasn't aware Wonder Woman had a sword.
Holly Hunter has been sounding like that for a little longer than Jodie Foster has.

I'm hoping that as Eisenberg is Lex Jr., fairly soon, Lex Sr. will be attempting to avenge Jr's passing.

Gal Gadot was great.

The same Director who didn't understand the characters in 'Watchmen' either.

It may be that, unlike Superman, Watchmen was a good fit for his worldview. It's pretty bleak subject matter.

I'd settle for not particularly good.

True.

It was something of a chore, but I still enjoyed it. To a point.

I gave it B-.

Regarding the Cinemascore it's kinda interesting how kids gave it a better score(A-) than older people.
Also women rated it better than men.

Now was it a masterpiece of cinematography? No, not by any stretch of the imagination.
I'd give the cinematography an A or an A+. My issue was with the editing.

Darkseid should look as close to his comic book likeness as possible IMO.
These movies have done a great job of capturing the characters' look from the comics so I expect the same from Darkseid.

I had no issue with Superman. He was every bit the superhero that he's supposed to be. As for Batman, the only problem I saw was his level of anger. Aside from those moments, he was true to form.

You know, they could go that route if they wanted to. Eisenberg doesn't seem to be too popular. What if he doesn't want to come back?

Not so for me. I preferred it to MAN OF STEEL, which did have a slow first half. For truly boring Superman, try Supes' RETURNS.

Some major critics are slamming DAWN OF JUSTICE for being too heavy and too un-fun, unlike Marvel's approach. Why is DC studios obligated to be more like Marvel? Why is imitation an asset? You're already getting another universe here. Maybe the critics felt stiffed at not seeing a post-credit scene of Aquaman swallowing fish.

That being said, I like Singer's habit of opening event films in March, such as WATCHMEN. It's still not a summer movie, despite the high grosses.
Is it really Snyder's choice to have his movies in March or the studio doesn't believe his type of movies don't fit appropriately for a summer audience? Which might fair worse.

To be fair, I don't really see the critics arguing for the movie to be as light and jokey as the Marvel movies. They just wanted something that wasn't so continuously dark and grim and ultra-serious... and I frankly have to agree. Even as dark as Nolan's TDK got at times, it still never felt to me nearly as continuously heavy and oppressive as BvS did.

And even MOS didn't really get that grim or heavy until towards the end in my view.

And as I've said, I don't know how Marvel films got a reputation for being light and fluffy. There's a lot of dark stuff in them alongside the humor. I think it's just that we've had Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man within the past year or two, and so they're more prominent in people's memories than all the heavier stuff we got in earlier films like Iron Man 3 and The Winter Soldier.

It was a good idea for WB to release this movie in March evading Civil War. I doubt it could compete with the May film; just looking at how terrible that piece of sh*t BvS was.
