I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm looking forward to it even more now. I enjoy seeing a new spin on old familiar characters.

Apparently, this is another movie not made for the fans. ;)

Again, and it's really not even worth saying anymore---you should probably see the movie before you take stands like this on this particular point.

It's not a "stand." This isn't a moral debate. Just because I express an opinion, that doesn't mean I close my mind to reappraisals based on further information. That's the way too many people on the Internet think -- that any opinion, no matter how cursory, must be clung to and defended relentlessly -- but that's stupid. Any rational person is able to adjust one's opinions in the face of new information. And that means it shouldn't be forbidden to have a preliminary opinion based on what information one has. Because anyone who thinks rationally should understand the difference between a first impression and an immutable "stand."

Put another way, I'm not standing, I'm walking. I'm taking what steps I can toward a greater understanding. All I have to go on at this point is what I read and what I hear, so I'm only taking baby steps, but the journey is ongoing. I have no intention of standing in place.

I wouldn't say that. It's influenced heavily by Frank Miller's work.

As someone who hated Man of Steel and would only consider seeing BvS under threat of death (and even then only consider seeing it), I agree with this. Christopher, you're obvious very interested in the film, so just go see it. You're spending so much time and energy in these massive debates about a movie that you haven't seen. It's 10 bucks. Give me your paypal email and I'll send you $10. Just go see the movie.

Which is kind of ironic since Frank Millar is on record saying he tries to make comics less cinematic - his theory being that comics should stand on their own & not try to mimic something else. It seems to have worked - the result is a product worthy of adaptation.

I saw this last night with 3 of my kids.

29% at Rotten tomatoes? Really? Is this a classic? ... no, but 29%?

I thought all the actors (headliners) played their parts very well. I'm not as down on Cavill as most I guess. I don't think it's his acting, I think it's a writing/directing choice to "darken" Superman. I have a harder time with the casting choice for Lois Lane, Amy Adams has about as much charisma as a brown paper bag. Also, every time Senator Finch opened her mouth I thought "why not just cast Jody Foster?" if she's going to try and sound like her that much.

Ben was superb as Batman & Bruce Wayne. Really good. The best since Michael Keaton IMO.

The movie is kind of slow getting to where it wants to go; but I don't remember sitting in the theater bored. It's long, but it kept my interest throughout.

I thought during the entire movie that Eisenberg was Lex Luther's son, not Lex himself - but then I read IMDB and the character's name is "Lex Luthor". I guess I've never heard Lex refer to his father before. They certainly did that a bunch in this film.

I thought the fight scenes and the CGI/graphics/FX (whatever it is nowadays) was just awesome. I just wish they would brighten it up some and pace the action a little slower so we could appreciate it more. I would love to see more detail of the Batmobile and Batplane and the Batcave as well. It was nice to see Batman actually fight instead of looking like he had superpowers. Superman and Wonder Woman were visualized beautifully. I read a couple reviews that complained about the "loudness" of the fight scenes etc... I did not experience that. I actually was pleased my ear drums were still in my head leaving the theater. (unlike 'Battleship')

I thought the stupidest scene in the film is when "they" decide to nuc Superman and Doomsday while Superman had the upper hand and could have just kept going

I was against the casting of Gal Gadot but I think she did fine. I still think Gina Carano would have been more "amazon" and fit the role better. I wasn't aware Wonder Woman had a sword.

I saw where they were going to incite Batman to fight Superman, but I didn't "feel" it like I probably should have. That's the major complaint I have. But all in all I enjoyed it and thought it was better than 'The Force Awakens'. 8 out of 10 (A-) for me.

OH!!!!! EDIT......

I could understand Batman when he spoke!!!!! Finally!!

Lex was goading them both into fighting (he was sending Wally's checks back to Bruce Wayne and sending the polaroids of Batman's work to Clark) because, presumably, if Superman killed Batman he'd have compromised himself publicly (which Luthor aided by bombing the Capitol) and if Batman killed Superman then Superman (the only real threat to Luthor) would be gone.

"ChinaFilmInsider?" Really? :guffaw: :guffaw:

Meanwhile, in the real world the movie is setting records. At over 57 million it's Warner's best China release ever. Despite falling four million short of late domestic projections (166 million rather than 170 million) it's still the seventh biggest opening ever.

I've already explained multiple times why I am unwilling to see this film in a theater. That is non-negotiable. I will see it when I can watch it on DVD and turn down the goddamn volume. Not before.

And I'm not very interested in the film. I'm interested in Wonder Woman. If it weren't for her inclusion, I'd happily go the rest of my life without ever watching a Zack Snyder film again. Anything beyond that is just morbid curiosity.

No -- strike that. It's more than curiosity, because this is more than just a movie. For better or worse, it's an event. It's the first cinematic crossover between Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. It's the beginning of DC's planned shared film universe. It's a significant event in genre culture in ways that have little to do with whether the movie is any good or not. So it's a story I feel compelled to follow even without being a direct participant, just as I can't resist following the political news about the presidential race. I may have little interest in the movie as a movie, but I can't help but be interested in its impact as a news event and a cultural and business phenomenon.

It wasn't terrible.
It wasn't good.
And it was yet another example of a writer/filmmaker not understanding the essence of either character.
The same Director who didn't understand the characters in 'Watchmen' either.

Since we had a new Batman cast in this movie, I think they should have gone with the aborted Nicholas Cage version of Superman. :wtf:

Where's the dislike button? :ack:

:p

^ I've said this before but I've never understood the appeal of fight scenes and brawling and whatnot or why it's a priority for so many people, not as part of the story but in and of itself. TREK_GOD did mention something about video game culture in the Supergirl thread and that made some sense though.

It predates video game culture. Go back four decades to the Hong Kong action cinema and Kung Fu flicks of the '70s. With most of those movies, was there really any point besides the fight scenes (which were really, really good)?
