It was also a dream sequence that came just after another dream/vision sequence, wasn't it?

I agree the Flash armor looked odd. I figured it was him but it wasn't obviously him, to me.

Right, the Flashback (ha!) happened right after Bruce's nightmare about the future.

I think you're inferring some things here that you'll possibly interpret differently upon seeing the film.

Suffice it to say, Superman does not approach their end battle with the sole goal of destroying Batman.

Figure of speech. My understanding is that Batman wants to destroy Superman, and that it's Batman who abruptly changes his mind about the whole thing based on the name coincidence.

Its almost like DC just wants Superman to play second fiddle to Batman.

Warner Bros. wants to make money. Batman is the only DC character they've managed to do successfully in the past few decades. So they fall back on the property that they expect to be the most profitable. Heck, the reason this version of Superman is so dour in the first place is that WB was trying to duplicate the successful formula they had for Batman.

Sorry but to me Batman is just a thug in a mask that uses tricks and can fight good.

He's also the World's Greatest Detective and a master strategist ten moves ahead of everyone else, but the movies haven't done a good job capturing that. I gather there's actually some detective work from Batman here, which is good to hear.

The writers of Flash and Arrow would of done a better job than the writers of this movie.

I had the thought that it'd be cool if they rebooted Superman and got Greg Berlanti to direct it. Maybe they could even set it in the Supergirl universe.

If that's the Flash then I'm even more confused lol.... why was he wearing this big Iron Man suit of armor, and how did he manage to appear in a dream and not in reality?

No, but he does interact with Bats in a very stupid way. He tries to explain what is going on, then instead of just holding Batman down and forcing him to listen, he shoves him around and drags him through a building and basically gives up on trying to just talk to Bats. All while the clock ticks down to Martha's death. (And don't get me started on what a terrible plan it is on the part of Lex. Kidnapping Martha to make Supes kill Bats is a huge no-win situation for Lex.)

He was wearing his regular outfit underneath, for what it's worth.

I gave it a C.

Bruce Wayne/Bats was the best thing about the movie, which should speak volumes.

It did take forever to get to the BvS stuff, which was actually fun to watch.

People in my theater cheered when Wonder Woman appeared. I rolled my eyes.

That had to be the single silliest version of the Doomsday storyline I've ever seen.

Eisenberg's Luthor? Just NO. He was trying to out-Ledger Heath Ledger's Joker.

They should have just limited this to Bats fighting Supers. The rest is a waste of material.

I'll hold of giving a rating until I rewatched it at least once. For now, having just seen it, I really liked it.

Anyone else think it's funny WB released a movie with Superman dying on Good Friday?! And just when you thought the Jesus allegories in the previous movies were too on the nose.

^ It was still exciting though, especially if you're immersed in the movie.

The point is that people usually cheer at stuff like that so I was expecting it. I was wondering if the lack of cheer was more a reflection on how the audience felt about the the movie rather than the fact that it was in the trailer.

I dunno, maybe I'll change my mind when I eventually see the movie, but having two characters intractably determined to destroy each other throughout the movie and then having them become friends just because of the coincidence that their mothers have the same name?

It's more than that. Bruce, because of his backstory, sympathizes with Clark's desire to prevent his mother's death.

And before that, they set up SHIELD as this Big Damn Hero organization and then wasted little time exposing the whole thing as corrupt to the core and needing to be torn down.

But in essence nothing really changed. The "good Shield" faction just went on as before.

That clinches it -- no way am I seeing this in a theater.

Not all theaters have the same volume. In mine, sometimes the music or sound effects seemed very loud, but most of the time the dialogue didn't seem quite loud enough in the mix. I missed some of it. So, it wasn't deafening or anything ( which is too bad because I might have preferred that ).

I explicitly did say that I know he'll be resurrected.

GOD'S NOT DEAD! :p

As if the last scene and the clear influence of the Death of Superman arc aren't enough, if the viewer still doesn't get that the filmmakers are doing a Wrath of Khan thing here ( which I guess makes the next movie The Search for Clark ), they make it even a little more obvious by playing "Amazing Grace" at the funeral. At that point it couldn't be any more obvious if they had Shatner himself turn up to croak out "Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels... his was the most... human."

Just got back, and as much as I've been defending the movie in here and hoping for the best (being the huge MOS fan that I am)... I'm afraid I have to call it like I see it. And to me the movie just didn't work well at all. :(

The story was dull, sluggish and all over the place, it took itself even more painfully seriously than I was expecting, and the movie's themes were dealt with in the most heavy-handed way imaginable. And while the actual Batman/Superman fight is well-executed, it all felt so incredibly forced and unwarranted that I had a hard time really taking it that seriously.

The most frustrating thing for me though was the fact we never got to see Superman do anything all that heroic or thrilling in the movie. The rescues we do see only come through hazy, slow motion montages and never got my pulse racing for a second. And he looks so perpetually dour and unfriendly throughout the movie that it's frankly not a surprise that Bruce, Lex, and the government are so untrusting of him. I'm one of those who had no trouble buying Superman as a noble and inspiring figure in MOS, but sadly I didn't feel that much at all in this movie.

As for Affleck, he certainly made for a very imposing looking Batman, but other than that I can't say he made much of an impression on me. Although to be fair, most of that was because I just didn't find his storyline to be that compelling to begin with.

The one and only bright spot for me was Wonder Woman. The movie really comes alive when she's on screen (thanks to Gadot's natural charm and the fact she just looks so damn perfect in the role), and it definitely could have used a lot more of her. Plus it helps that she's the one character who's not glum and miserable and unhappy all the time. It's just too bad the trailers already spoiled her big entrance and, well, pretty much everything else she does!

In the end, while MOS would have gotten an A- from me, this one only gets a C. Which is just not what I was hoping for at all.

I'm not familiar with Ezra Miller, but that was him in the Darkseid dream sequence / Speed Force conduit scene, right? When he said he came in too early?

^ Yes that was Ezra as the Flash. The Flash has done this in the comics before. Time traveling to the past and tried communicating information to his fellow Justice Leaguers. Normal problem is, he can't deliver the message clearly or it comes in fragments. If his powers worked like the Reverse Flash's powers worked, this would be cleaner for him.

And boy, now that I've seen the movie... that second trailer was a terrible idea. It really DID spoil the entire movie. It shows Doomsday... it shows Wonder Woman appearing to save Batman... why would you give that away? The movie going public has no idea who Doomsday is; he's just another CGI Hulk monster to them, so it means nothing to them. And for the comic fans, you give away the third act surprise. All you need to advertise this movie is Batman beating the crap out of Superman and Wonder Woman appearing in action out of context of the fight. That's it.
