Batman: The Brave and the Bold news, discussion and reviews

I figured we could consolidate talking about Batman: The Brave and the Bold into a single thread through to the end of the series. There are 27 new episodes still to air on Cartoon Network. New episodes will resume in the fall, although no start date is known yet.

Some news regarding upcoming episodes:

- There will be two episodes featuring Justice League International, both written by J.M. DeMatteis.

- Black Orchid will appear, making her animation debut.

- Vicki Vale will appear, voiced by Gabriel Carteris.

- "Emperor Joker!" will feature Robin (Jeremy Shada), Firefly and the Ten-Eyed Man (Robin Atkin Downes for both), Harley Quinn (Meghan Strange), and Joker-Mite (Jeff Bennett).

- There will be a crossover with Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (the new Scooby-Doo show).

- There will be an appearance by the Weeper, a very obscure villain who first appeared in Fawcett Comics and then appeared in a 1976 Justice League comic when DC acquired the Fawcett characters. This will be the character's first appearance in animation. Tim Conway is voicing him.

- Superman and Wonder Woman have been cleared to appear on the show. Tippi Hedren will be voicing Hippolyta.

There's still 27 eps left? That's good. All this talk about ending the show had me worried. I'm looking forward to "Emperor Joker", I liked that comic. I wonder if it will feature Superman, since the comic starred Superman and not Batman.

Cool! I wonder if they'll recreate the famous "one punch" scene with Batman and Guy.

I don't even know who that is. This show has really dug down deep to find obscure DC characters to bring to life.

Please tell me it's written by Paul Dini.

Oh. My. Gawd. Like those old Scooby-Doo Movies episodes where Superfriends-style Batman and Robin teamed up with Scooby and the gang. Oy vey. They totally, utterly have no shame. Well, it makes sense. Both sets of characters were in use by Hanna-Barbera at the time, and now they're both under the Warner Bros. umbrella. And Mystery Incorporated isn't a bad show -- kind of a post-modern, deconstructionist, older-skewing version. It reminds me of the description of the old A Pup Named Scooby-Doo show: Scooby-Doo for people who don't like Scooby-Doo. Although it's very different from that show.

I'm more interested to know who's voicing Supes and WW.

Gabrielle Carteris. I had such a crush on her...very cool! :bolian:

Yeah, I am more interested about Superman appearing.

I so need to watch this show...omg "Emperor Joker!" one of my favorite event comics during the early 2000's! Might even catch the Scooby crossover.

That's too funny, I guess they'll probably go with the animation style of Brave and the Bold but I'd like to see Batman done with the wild angles, colors and lighting they've been using on Mystery Incorporated. (uh, or so I've heard, as a grown man I of course have never see it)

Oh yeah, that's right. I really like the art direction on Mystery Inc. There was some absolutely gorgeous use of shadow and light in parts of episode 2.

Dinah: "BATMAN BELTED HIM? AND I MISSED IT????"

J'onn: "Sorry we're late, Batman. (But not as sorry as Black Canary is.)"

Listen, if they want to milk the Warner Bros. connection, I'd rather see another guest shot by the Roadrunner and the Coyote.

At least this time Shaggy and Robin won't be voiced by the same guy.

^Oh, you may be right. But it's not the same without the JLI's reactions. (I know, I know, they weren't actually "I" yet at the time of that scene, but I use that acronym to distinguish that particular team from the "classic" JL.)

Doesn't Bruce even smirk in that panel? It's been a long time since i've seen that issue.
He stays suitably deadpan throughout (the Martian Manhunter, on the other hand, gives a big ol' smirk):

My God, Dinah just looks so... '80s. (Although I'm not sure the '40s fishnet stockings are any better.)

The first time I saw that second panel, it took me two or three looks to figure out that Blue Beetle had his head tilted back, that we were looking at the underside of his chin.

Well, we can give Kevin Maguire a little play; Justice League was his first assignment after all. It's amazing he literally just walked into one of the flagship titles at DC; if memory serves, Maguire's prior work had been in John Romita's art corrections department at Marvel.
