Tonight Batman Brave and the Bold will finally be returning to Cartoon Network with new episodes.

At 6:30pm EST :wtf:

I know it's a kids show but some of us have to get home from work dammit

And what's airing at 7? A rerun of Young Justice. Followed by new episodes of Ben 10 and Gen Rex. But not Star Wars. So why not air it at 7, instead of the umpeenth rerun of the Young Justice pilot?

I would guess it's because YJ gets good ratings in that time slot even if it's a rerun. Maybe BB&B's ratings aren't strong enough in comparison to displace it. The fact that CN doesn't rerun BB&B at all suggests that it hasn't been a huge ratings winner for them. Conversely, they air YJ at least twice a week.

looking forward to new Brave & the Bold. i believe tonights ep will feature Superman.

That was a pretty cool episode. Dark Knight Returns Batman and Krypto versus Superman! I also thought Supes' incredibly lame and dickish moves on the public while evil were pretty funny.

Missed opportunity: bringing in other heroes to help fight Supes at the end.

I hope they'll use Superman more now.

This wasn't a great one -- it depended too much on in-jokes and Silver Age homages rather than telling a strong story. Still, it had its moments. And not all the homages were to the Silver Age:

"Superman's turned into a complete di--"
"--fferent person!"

Which is to an Internet site/meme about the Silver Age Superman. And that armor Batman wore to fight Superman -- that was right out of book 4 of The Dark Knight Returns, wasn't it?

What puzzled me was that they used Superman: The Animated Series' designs for the Daily Planet building/offices, the look of Metropolis, and the like. It was a little incongruous, seeing TB&TB-verse characters in a DCAU environment. I wonder, was that also an homage, or did they simply figure it would save time to reuse existing designs?

I loved Superman's earthquake on the Kandorians, classic superdickery.

I think BATB has fallen out of CN's favor. They seem to be always looking for the next thing so some of their shows get sort of relegated to second-class citizen treatment after a while. The good news is there's always something on the horizon but sometimes old faves get ridden over roughshod in the process.

This show has been a tough sell especially with Batfans being a bit fanatical and coming off of the WB show I think many of them wanted something nice and gritty.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a homage since B:BB seems to be one giant homage at times. I want to see this...

My problem with CN is that they never re-run BBB! All the other shows get a rerun, but BBB only ever airs once at an inconvenient time. And of course they don't put the episodes up online or anything.

^ Yeah that really sucks. I basically have to watch this on Youtube. Although I've seen episodes on Teletoon here in Canada.

And of course now that every warm to it and likes it's quirkiness their going to cancel it to make A new "serious" Batman series again.

Have they? I've completely fallen out of the scene but the last time I overheard people talking about it at a comic shop or convention was just slagging the approach but that was at the very beginning.

^ Lump me in with those slagging it. Mostly I was pissed that "The Batman" had been canceled.Since I've had a chance to watch it though, I love it. I'd not be shocked to hear if they were going back to a more "serious" Batman cartoon some time after "The Dark Knight Rises". He's just too popular a character not to have an animated series of any kind.

Initially I didn't care for the kiddie approach but the more I watched it the more it grew on me. It's just nice to see a bazillion DC characters on the screen.

I thought the show leaned more torwards the golden age than silver age . and what was with all the squinting the eyes . I mean lperry , lex, and superman were squinting . And look at lois and jimmy so golden age . though I do agree that meteropolis did seem 90's superman animated show .

Lois was very late 50s/early 60s The Silver Age looking. All she needed was a pillbox hat. The Golden Age Lois usually had longer hair. The version of Luthor they used was from the 50s. ( heavyset and in a suit)

I think I read an article from last year's comic con with the showrunners where they stated that they've used the most realized version of the characters, that is why Catwoman appears in her green and purple Silver Age costume, etc. I maybe forgetting the exact wording but it was along those lines.
