"Batman: Brave and the Bold" Thoughts?

Hiya, folks.

Anyone catch the first episode of Batman: Brave and the Bold? What did you think?

I enjoyed the art direction: using Dick Sprang's work as a springboard was a great idea. And I'm glad they didn't use the same Batman voice from the old Animated Series. Enough is enough with Kevin Conroy.

The Blue Beetle was an odd choice for lead-off hero, but it worked out. And it was fun to see Green Arrow in his old outfit. I've read that many of the big DCU heroes will be showing up in the future, including my personal favorite The Justice Society of America.

I recorded the episode for my 4 year old daughter to watch with me tomorrow. Since this was aimed at kids, I'll judge her reaction and report in.

It was alright. Kinda lost interest after the first 15 minutes. Kids will love it though.

Agreed. This show is not aimed at the same audience as JLA/JLU. But I will continue to watch. And I am also looking forward to seeing the Justice Society as well!
 
What's so bad about Kevin Conroy? I happened to adore the old batman animated series with Kevin Conroy, with the gothic/neo retro art direction and Shirley Walker's music especially.

What do you mean "enough is enough?" Conroy hasn't been the exclusive Batman actor in WB productions for some time. He's only played the role in the Timmverse series and the Gotham Knight anime-anthology DVD. Rino Romano played the character for five seasons of The Batman and Jeremy Sisto played him in Justice League: The New Frontier. And since this is clearly a very different take on Batman, there's no reason to expect they would've used Conroy.

Sure. And, to me, that is enough.

I was even very disappointed to hear him on the Gotham Knight DVD. His voice didn't fit, for me, with the new designs.

I taped it, but haven't watched it yet. It looks nicely retro. :) And I think it's great that they're using the Brave And The Bold this time around, so we can see as many different characters as possible. And was that Kamandi I saw in the opening sequence? :eek:

I don't know why this kiddiefied version of the Dark Knight had to be made when there's already the 1970's The New Adventures Of Batman on DVD. From what I've seen, it's alright, but my tastes lie with the slightly dark version of Batman on The Batman (and boy, am I going to miss that show now). I'll try to like this show, but it won't be easy.

That was supposed to be the Clock King? Please tell me he never actually looked like that in the comics. :wtf:

Yeah, but with a slight change. I like it; it's simple, to the point, and it states what it's supposed to state. Plus, its mine. And how did you know?;)
 
I despised it, as I knew I would from the first time I saw the designs.

I think they should've gone with Superman for this instead of The Batman. Take a look at his cape...it's tucked into the shoulders, just like Superman's.

I know many will disagree, but to me, if you want a hero who can do nearly anything, including going into space, then go with Superman. Or Green Lantern.

But The Batman doesn't belong in those settings. I felt that the character was really diminished by the designs and the setting.

I'd love to see Superman in this style, though, and in a team-up context. That might be the way to go with the character in animation.

^^ That's how it was during the Silver Age. Batman would go on space missions just like anybody else.

I thought it was great. A nice antidote to the angry adolescent appeal of the movies, and a good match with Secret Saturdays. I hope it catches on.
