They are also saying that about the new Young Justice series.
So maybe Batman Beyond isn't set in the future of the main DC universe, but the future of one of the other 50 Earths? One that maybe greatly resembles the DCAU? Personally, I think it would be cool if they "canon-ized" the DCAU by setting it on an alternate Earth in the overall DC continuity.
^In DC's Countdown, Terry McGinnis was introduced as an inhabitant of Earth-12, implying that that was the DCAU, but according to the Wikipedia description, its version of Earth-12's Green Lantern is hard to reconcile with DCAU continuity.

Which is when I'll be picking it up. Once I tracked down issue 1 and it indicated mini-series I didn't get it.
It'll be cheaper per issue either at Amazon or a show via a 1/2 off vendor.

Yeah I'll be picking it up then as well...I've been reading them ahem through other means, and I was going to link that wikipedia article for Christopher's benefit but now I don't have to. The only thing that is clear is that the Superman/Batman Annual (which should be on shelves since it only came out a month or two ago) is DCAU continuity. The rest of them is still up in the air but really fun to read so far. I really enjoyed the twist of Grant Morrison's Batman Beyond segment in Batman 700 which totally makes sense to use Damien instead of Bruce since the latter is dead at that point. Would love to see more of Grant's Batman Beyond 'verse.
Just finished reading Superman/Batman #75 and there is a two page back up story featuring Damien Wayne and a grown up aged Conner Kent Superman meeting to honor their namesakes and once more Damien mentions Terry. So this will mark the second mention/appearance of Grant Morrison's Batman Beyond version.
I suppose we could try to shoe-horn Damien into the DCAU mythos. Bruce could die or disappear and be replaced by Damien as mentor...
^ This is what Morrison has basically done in his version of Batman Beyond since Batman 666 explains that Bruce died and Damien assumed the cape and cowl to avenge his death and made a bargain with the devil. I really suggest picking up Batman 700...I feel it's worth it for the BB panels alone, along with the Batcave profiles. It will be collected in February or March along with 701 and 702.
For some reason, I was under the impression that Damien was a complete replacement for Bruce (meaning Bruce was long-dead or gone before Terry came around). It's only today that I realized people meant Damien was just taking over for Bruce mid-training (meaning DCAU Batman Beyond continuity is still accurate).

It's in the flashback at the beginning of the issue which explains the backstory a bit...and yeah Damien IS basically Bruce's role in this version of Beyond.
Yes a version of Batman Beyond was identified as Earth 12...according to the wikipedia article the Morrison Beyond universe is called "the mainstream contemporary DCU". As for Terry's rouges, yeah he really didn't have the greatest villains as Timm and company attempted to build a new rouges gallery. The Jokerz, Inque, and Derek Powers are notable. some of them were even employed by Derek Powers in the animated series. I'm really liking the new Catwoman in the mini-series though, I think the banter between her and Terry while short is been great. I'm not enjoying the deteriorating relationship and bickering between Terry and Bruce either...but I suppose this is a nod to "Epilogue" where it was implied the two of them were going through some kind of rift before Waller revealed Project Batman Beyond to Terry.
Okay, you guys are confusing me about this Damien business. One of you is suggesting that this Damien guy (that's the kid who's currently Robin?) takes over for Old Bruce after the events of the entire Batman Beyond TV series, so that they're in the same continuity; but the other seems to be suggesting that Morrison's continuity is an alternative to the DCAU in which Damien is Terry's mentor all along instead of Bruce. So which is it? (I'd think it couldn't be the former, because we know from "Epilogue" that Bruce was still around a good 12 or 13 years after the end of the BB series.)
Okay here is the Batman Beyond wikipedia article, scroll down to where it covers the recent Batman Beyond appearances in the comics. The Morrison Beyond stuff doesn't take place in the established DCAU but in his own suggested future for the Batman franchise. Bruce died at some point in the near future as I've stated before and was shown in a flash back panel near the start of "Batman #666". "Batman 700" showed Damien IN PLACE of Old Bruce in this version of Batman Beyond guiding Terry as Batman Beyond. Morrison's continuity has nothing to do with the television series as far as I can tell. Once again here is the Batman Beyond wiki article...

No, what I gathered from the explanations earlier in the thread is that there are three versions in the comics. The only one that's in the animated continuity is the Superman/Batman annual. The current miniseries is in a different version that's in the future of the DCU proper rather than the DCAU. And Morrison's Damien Wayne future is a third version.
^ Christopher is correct...the first appearance of Terry in continuity proper was Countdown to Infinite Crisis I believe and the wiki article mentions he is from Earth-12. The wiki article explains what I've been attempting to clear up.
Batman Beyond ongoing announced...to happen after the mini-series concludes, no creative teams announced yet. I'm happy about this.
