Which film was the better "REBOOT"?

I think STAR TREK was the better reboot. Parts of BATMAN BEGINS seem to stretch on a bit too long. And, IMO, the ending seems rushed. I think TREK XI is the better film...what say you??

I think, overall, Star Trek is the better film.

Though they both have their problems.

Of course, they're also both great.

Begins kicks seven shades of shit out of STXI, as does Casino Royale.

I enjoyed Star Trek more as a movie due to my Trekkieness, but I'd say Batman Begins was a better straight-up "reboot" because it didn't bother trying to explain it away using alternate universes. It just told a New Story and ran with it, which I kind of wish Star Trek had done. I think the clunkiest aspect of Trek (other than the SNOW MONSTER CHASE:eek::eek:) was the time travel-soaked Nimoy exposition plot.

I came out of Batman Begins feeling pleasantly surprised and with a strong feeling of, "Wow--someone actually READ SOME BATMAN COMICS before making a Batman flick this time."

I came out of Star Trek feeling like I'd spent a pleasant couple hours at the movies, but not really feeling like the filmmakers had quite exactly gotten Star Trek totally right.

So I think I'm gonna have to give this one to Batman Begins.

(To be fair, though, who knows how it'll all play out? I definitely want to see another Trek with the same cast and crew, and maybe JJ & Co. have a Dark Knight-level sequel in 'em now that they've got the Obligatory Origin Story out of the way...)

Both have tons of bad science and questionable plots(microwave machine/giant-drill and black-hole device). Both have mostly good casts but with one or two I could have done without (Holmes/Quinto). . .

I'd say they're about even, I might give Batman Begins the edge just for being the first movie to really capture the spirit of Batman, whereas Star Trek '09 was just doing their own thing.

I loved Batman Begins, despite beings skeptical about the concept at first. The film balances action, character exploration, moral issues and is united by a strong thematic, atmospheric sense of composition. It's a film I own on DVD and gets an almost yearly re-watching.

The best Abrams' product has going for it is shit goes boom in space. You'd have to pay me to sit through another showing.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

It took me a second viewing to fully appreciate Star Trek, but I like it OK now. By contrast, Batman Begins sold me instantly and keeps paying dividends.

I adore the new Star Trek movie, but the new Batman franchise represents to me one of the best things on film in my lifetime. So Begins trumps Trek in a direct comparison.

I looked at the poll results but didn't vote. As a Batman fan, I hated Batman Begins, not for the concept but for the execution. The only good I saw in it was two wisecracks by Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman's bit of fresh air. As Bond fan, I hated Casino Royale even more than Batman Begins. In each case I kept expecting the rest of the movie to somehow be okay, but to me, if anything they pretty much got worse as the film progressed, especially Casino Royale, in which case the best part for me was the closing credits (for the music).

I haven't seen XI, and you can see why I don't put much stock in positive reviews of that by people who praised the Batman and Bond reboots, which were certainly way out of tune with my tastes. Besides, the XI trailers give me a headache, the last one more than the others. Even so, I wish Paramount longevity and prosperity.

Batman Begins. I went into Trek XI expecting a Trek movie par excellence and it delivered in that respect, more or less. I watched Batman Begins months after it came out on DVD expecting some light entertainment and got so much more than that. I think the fact that I am steeped in Trek lore but am only a casual Batman fan definitely played into that. It's much harder to make a Trek movie that I will think is perfect because I have so many preconceived ideas as to what that might look like. Batman I'm still relatively clueless about.

Trek.

While I like a lot of the elements in Begins, I find the story itself a dull slog to sit through. The origin story was told in such a predictable, by-the-numbers fashion, and drained too much of the mystery out of the Batman character for my taste. And when we finally DID see him in action, we could barely descipher anything that was going on anyway.

As for Trek, while I agree the time travel backstory was clumsily done, the ultimate result is that this universe and these characters actually feel new and FRESH again, where pretty much anything can happen. Plus it was just a really fun, kickass movie.

Batman was amazing-the wife and I left the theater going, "Wow, and that part...!"

Star Trek was just FUN! I think we're talking apples and oranges here.

As much as I love Star Trek, I gotta got with the (IMHO) best Batman movie here.

Let the flame wars begin lol
